Need help with guage layout

Post by frdnut »

I don't like the way the previous owner installed the gauges in the wifes new 65 pickup...The gauges are installed nicely but they just don't go together very well as they are different sizes and colours...I personally would like to have aftermarket oil and temp gauges and relocated the tach to the steering column..The problem is now that the tach is installed in the dash it leaves too big of a hole to be replaced by a normal sized temp gauge.....So is there a gauge that could replace the oil pressure gauge with a dual oil/temp or maybe even a triple oil/temp/volts?...The only multi type gauges I have seen are a quad type gauge that also includes a fuel level gauge which I do not need..

Or any other options I have not thought of?

Have you thought about getting an uncut dash panel painting it and putting the gauges where you want them?Im sure someone here has one laying around they would part with. Thats what I would do.

Here is what I did:

This worked well for me. I just made a center plate and cut my holes for the smaller gauges.

Josh, I like that.
I did something similar.
You can't see the LED's for the turn signals and high beam, but they're in the stock location.
The tach goes on the steering column because I'm doing an "old school" theme on my truck.

I agree with finding an old dash and painting it and installing the gauges where you want them and the size you want....

It appears you have the exact same tach..Can you tell me what series those gauges are? I know it's an autometer but couldn't find the exact model..

My current project:

I know I've seen dual gauges.
I'm with the others. Get an unmodified panel and make it the way you want.

frnut, your wife has one fine looking truck there!, well except the dash maybe!, I think I`d go with finding a matching temp gauge( if thats what it is) and just balancing the dash out that way!.
Honey, If I say I`ll fix something I will, there`s no need to remind me every 6 months!!

That would be my vote or start over with a panel from Ice. :2cents:

Thanks for the compliment...I agree that would be the easiest fix..The problem is nobody seems to make a temp guage that big(3 1/8th)..The only gauges I can find that are as big as my tach are other tachs and speedometers.

The gauges are the Autometer Streetrod American classic:

Hope the above link helps, the autometer site isn't the best to nav through.

How about something like this
Image

These are the 1935 series from new vintage. They only show the kits, so you would have to contact them to see if you could by the dual gauges separately.

I went simple and installed a early bronco cluster with the factory gauges then stripped the surround to polished aluminum and finally added a white face overlay kit from
http://whitegauges.net/products/1966%25 ... auges.html

like I said........Simple... it's just the way I think...
