Thanks, Im anxious to get it done.. well. it'll never be done.. but painted and drivable.. I've been almost a year without driving it.
It was hard to tear it down and strip it.. but. it will be worth it I feel. I will keep you all updated as we go along.

I actually had a guy ( who knows cars and body work ) ask me why I painted the inside grey.. lol.. I was proud of the kid who sprayed it.. ( I'm letting my friends High School Class do the paint work.. and labor.. They have a great program here.. the shop is better than most pro body shops )

This was the kids first spray of the school year.. we shipped the truck off to the teachers personal shop aftwerwards where he has his on business .. he has a former student working for him there.. he is going to do most if not all the body work for around $300 it may take two rounds to get done..total of 600..not too bad.. This kid won 1st at skills usa in body and metal work.. talented kid. but he got his girlfriend prego.. having twins he needs cash and is doing all he can working 3 jobs. so dont mind helping him out. I'll be over there doing my share of the work as well.. lots of metal work to do in the bed that im going to tackle.

progress

Post by 65fordguy »

progress report.. metal work almost done.. fiberglass and filler applied... going to get it up to the other shop so we can clean it all up and prime it. and continue body work.

Image
this is where a vinyl graphic rusted out a 7 inch long hole.

Image
radio antennae hole filled.. truck was ordered with out a radio.. why is there a hole?

Image
holes in the bed where rails where attached.. and spare tire holder.

Image
Gas filler filled and coated in fiberglass to smooth it all out.. kinda looks funky now.. but will look better soon.

Image
There was a HUGE bracket here that someone pried up with a screwdriver and put a big dent under it.. and the western style mirror holes filled.

Image
64 trim holes in hood welded filled and sanded.. fender straightened.

Thats the jist of it.. theres more done.. just small dings and what not.

Heading back to the school from the teachers shop tomorrow hopefully.. and will get primed and continue smoothing it out.

a picture from when bought... check out the front fender... it had over almost an inch of filler on it.. half of which had flaked off.. and wasnt needed.. see above .. same fender. . . lol. this was the only body repair that had been done to the truck before I got it.

This picture reminds me that I have filled in the hood ornament location as well.. and replaced the 65 upper grille panel with a 64 panel to smooth it all out.

Thanks, yeah.. Im very Eager to get it in for final body work and prime and paint.. Im tired of fighting the battle of (worrying over really) light surface rust for a few months now.. gotta love it. I coated it with ospho earlier this year which has worked for the most part.

yeah. im pleased with the performance of the ospho.. The bed has been stripped for almost 2 years.. back in jan. feb. this year I removed all the surface rust for about the 4th time and and ospho'd it.. and even through the wet season, it remained rust free.. it turned all the deposits black.. you can see that well in the photo of the holes in the bed rails .. kinda cool how it works.. certainly makes me feel better to know its on there.

I'm sorry, what is ospho? Is that a brand name of a product?

Ospho is a brand name of a rust neutralizer made up of Phosphoric Acid.

This is also pretty popular:

There are many different brands of basically the same thing.

NICE WORK those kids are doing!!!! SWEET!

that is odd it has the antenna hole. I also thought the slotted dash was only in trucks with a radio and a speeker in there. guess not... lol

Thanks, ...Well you would think with all that there would be a radio.. but no dice..ok though.. I like the smooth look.. the odd thing is I've seen some that dont even have slotted dash and have a plate where the radio goes. and a hole on the outside.. ??? who knows.

I'll post progress soon.. should be primed soon.
