gold mine?

Post by unibody madness »

I ,as many of you search e-bay from time to time to see what parts are going for..but This guy is a little over the top
Do a search under "1961 ford truck" First page; rocker, cab steps, inner fenders and fenders.Wonder what a whole truck would go for

Makes me think he's a politician!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You just had to get me on E Bay didn't you? Now I'm bidding on some things.

Actually, thanks. Found a couple of things I need and if my bids carry I got good deals.

just a tip, do not get in a bidding war too soon as you may just drive the price out of your range, because of ego,not worth.
saw a couple of newbies on e-bay drive the price of an item from the normal 30-50 dollar range to over two hundred in the heat of the two day moment! lucky seller

I once sold a hard top off a Mazsa Mieta. It was a top that we had in the garage since the car was new. The car was long gone and the top was over ten years old. I posted it on e-bay with good pictures and a good explanation of where it came from and it sold for 1200 dollars. You could probably buy a new one for that. I had figured I would be lucky to get 800 for it.

Ebay is all about who is looking at the time you are selling.... I sold my first Econo mirror arm and round wedge spacer for over 30 times what I sold the second one for...(by the way, I sold the second one for $9.99) both were cleaned and primed and in very good to excellent shape.... Identical Items and a BIG difference in price... Both e-bayers were happy with their item....

Although I think the prices are high, I would do the same if I was selling the parts, (ask the price I paid for it and hope for someone to bid it up).. I always start at a price I would take, I don't care for the reserve auctions...

just my :2cents:

I've used E Bay for years to buy and sell for my other hobby, RC Helicopters. I've made some real good deals, made some good money, had to pass on some bad deals and let some things go too cheap. It is a great place to go though as the selections are large and if one doesn't want to pay a certain price that is their option. Lots of techniques are exhibited there and it can be entertaining to see how some get competitive and will spend too much just to win.

Ok you cheap @$$es. Keep up the good work and I'm happy to be one of you.

Whether thats what the seller paid, or is a member, has no bearing whatsoever on the fact the parts asking price, are way over the price of my entire truck.
The seller has every right to sell it for whatever price he see's fit. Somewhere there is a, by the book restorer, that would go for it.
I think I have the right to point out I think it is ludicrous and not because I am cheap..

Dennis Carpenter sells upper and lower motor mounts that fit the 292 and 223 engines in my truck application for $10.00 apiece
LMC, who I believe buys them from DC, sells them for $9.95 apiece.
NumberDummy from another site had posted that dealerships that had obsolete parts on the shelf generally sell them for less because they are stuck with them and cannot return them. I contacted the ford dealership in reno nevada because they were supposed to have 16 on the shelf .
The parts guy was nice enough to call me the next day with price and availability. They indeed had 16 uppers and were priced at $62.50 apiece. Ups still uses the upper in some application in their fleet, although they rarely call for them, except in an emergency.
Sorry but I feel the need to point out that greed in this country is out of control, I work too hard for my money to throw it away. If you think thats cheap, so be it. Somewere in your life you are being greedy and are rationalizing someone else's greed to justify your own.

I have to agree that some of the parts are over priced, I am interested in the fenders, priced at $1000 for the pair. But these are new fenders, original ford castings, not the imported ones that LMC and even Carpenter are selling. If Carpenter is asking $350 each, is $500 for NOS fenders out of the question? If I had the money, I would be buying these.
