Pulling the steering wheel off

How do I take the horn off? I need to straighten up the steering wheel.

on my 66 with the stock setup,

disconnect horns under the hood.
push in and turn, i believe counter clockwise, the horn ring and pull towards you.

Be sure and check to see if tehre is a reason the steering wheel is not centered. If it was just put back on wrong then fine but the use of teh wrong parts during repair can cuase the same problem and straightening the wheel is actually the wrong thing to do. The first thing to do is pull off the pitman arm (or the drag link from the pitman arm) and turn the wheel all the way one way and then count the turns going all the way back to the other stop. Now split the difference and see if the wheel is centered. If it is centered then find out what is wrong with the rest of the linkage, if it is not centered first make sure the coupler is on right (it really only goes one way but I have seen people booger it up). If the coupler is good then change the wheel. I realize this sounds like work (it is) but the steering box is actually designed to run at the center and the gears are beveled and crowned and if you drive it off centered it will cause loose steering and wear. Unfortunately I just did this on a truck I recently bought because I replaced the aftermarket wheel with a stock one and noticed the mark on the column did not line up with the mark on teh wheel. It was a pain but it turned out to be the wrong drag link. The reality is that the way these were designed the wheel can't really be off unless something is wrong. Hawkrod
