Alternator options

Post by Brian Taylor »

With all these memebers with new one wire alternators got me wanting a new alternator.
What options do I have for an alternator with a built in regulator that will work on my truck. (66 f100 w/300) Mine is stock with the extenal regulator but I will need a bit stronger one once I install the power windows, stereo, etc. Price is a factor so nothing overkill and chrome will not make the 300 any faster.

Brian.
I got a mini 1 wire that puts out 130 amps at pate for 125.00. Works like a champ.
If you won't be able to make Pate, look around your local alternator shops. They're pretty common.

It's a good move to make. You just need to get a one wire alternator in the "Ford Case." Th positions of the bolts and their spacing off the block is what is critical. Summit, Barnett - pretty much any after-market "SpeedShop" can hook you up.

Just remember that you are looking for a "One Wire Alternator in the Ford 2G casing." Please verify that the case is the same as what fits on your 300 before you go installing it just to be sure, but I'm almost positive that it'll work.

I went with the powermaster, it's a great alternator. Stay away from the "Tuff Stuff" brand, as they are hit or miss.

Good luck!

Oh Skip, I would not let you miss out on a chance to see me at Pate. I will be there but might have the Alt. done before then. All this warm weather has had me climbing all over the truck. A few more holes and I can paint my center console. It's a monster.
Thanks for the alt info too.

Will this alternator that you guys mentioned mount up to the brackets I have for my 352? I am also very interested in picking up a 1 wire unit.
