When it rains it pours

Post by banjopicker66 »

I just can't seem to quit for losing.
Busted a rear shock mount, due to bad rear springs. Got a replacement (thanks, Pete!) for really decent price. Good to go there.
Springs - $450, a good price, complete with U-bolts, shackle bolts and bushings pressed in. But still: Ouch.
Went ahead and replaced U-joints and rear bearings - another $100.
Four new coil over shocks for $150 - more ouch.
And now to top it all off, the C6 transmission with only 80K miles on it is toast.
Really really ouch.
Getting a good one rebuilt for towing at $700 - but I hope this stops very soon.
This is hard to do when unemployed and living on savings.

I did the power disc brakes and power steering upgrades within the last 3 years, so those are all new, including the steering linkage.
Rebuilt heads and good block, with all new radiator, batteries, starter, carb, PS pump, alternator and water pump - none of that should go wrong.

Know how you feel Banjo. It's always something. Are you not covered by unemployment?

No Rich, I am not eligible for unemployment. I resigned my job after being told to sign documents attesting that certain actions had been taken when in fact I had been forbidden from doing them.
Since that would have been lying, and these documents are subject to Federal scrutiny anyway, I wasn't going to do it.
Besides, I had been working 70 plus hours a week for three months straight (including Christmas Day) and was fatigued, and had made some significant programming errors - they had more than enough to fire me.
I still think it was worth my integrity and sanity to just resign - even though that was a year ago.
There is some small satisfaction in the aftermath - everyone I knew there in the IT department has been fired or left. Not a pleasant company to work for. I was there 2 years, and in the year since, they have gone through 3 IT managers, 4 programmers and 2 security managers - I was the security manager.
God has taken care of us, like he always does. All my bills are paid on time, I have no debt, except for the house, and its payments are current, so God has taken good care of us.
But the Slick repairs hit unexpectedly hard, that's all.

John,
Sorry for your troubles.
From the times I have read your posts I feel you are more than capable of landing on your feet and coming up sprinting so to speak. Hope your bad luck is at an end.

Thanks to each of you, for all the encouragement. Rich, Ezer John and Dave, I am very grateful.
God will indeed get us through, and the credit all belongs to him, but he uses friends like all of you Slicksters here as assistants.
Thanks so much again.

John i am sorry to hear that.
was hoping you got the trans working after we talked last week.

in the end as much as the cost hurt, it is much less than the cost of failure on the road while towing a trailer would be.

i am always grateful when a vehicle breaks at home or very close by.

times are very lean here now too, my wife is only getting a very small amount from unemployment and now instead of selling parts to fund my project, they fund non-truck items.

you have a great attitude and excellent skills and i think you will
find a suitable job.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, John. Parts never break at a convenient time for any of us. Luckily you weren't many miles from home. I feel so very blessed to know so many folks like you and all my Slick bretheren. As was said before, "God will not close a door without opening another one!" Best wishes on a new beginning for you and your family. TR
