Gas tank

Post by TOMJAK11 »

Does anyone have a good way to clean out a gas tank? I tried the mineral sparers and chain trick and my pump still can't get the gas out. Btw tried the mech pump and two electric ones. Cleaned out the tube at top of tank with wire. Any help?

Most Slicks don't have a "sock" filter in the tank, the suction pipe just ends. It will vacuum up any little crud and plug up, usually at the fitting on the tank top. It's soldered in, so not easy to put a sock on it. The tank has to be spotlessly clean to keep working. Take it to a shop and have it steamed, or DIY at a car wash.

Tube is plugged or bent or leaking air

Try blowing air through the tube. Put some water in it and look through the sending unit hole with a FLASHLIGHT for bubbles. Assuning you have removed the tank?

Someone told me to take it to a radiator shop. Not sure the cost on that but might be worth checking into if all else fails.
