Local Breweries

Post by sixty6 »

Road trip this summer and hoping to find some local brews along the route. Probably end up with a trunk full of beer for the ride home.

We are headed from Illinois to Ashville NC, to Orlando FL, to Atlanta GA, to home. Any local breweries or places to eat along the way would be appreciated. The more local the better.

While in NC I am hoping to hit up Dennis Carpenter and Carolina-Classics. In Florida I think we will take a day to go to Daytona and see the speedway and drive the Jetta down the beach. Any other scenery must sees or ideas appreciated.

no help w/the breweries, but if you are a motorsports fan, and going down interstate 75 past Ocala, Big Daddy Don Garlits is a must see. One building has the history of drag racing in it and the other one has lots of hemi's and flatheads.........couple of hours and several tee shirts.....Dave

Keep them coming. Looks like the gps is going to be getting a workout!

Alan, Cracker Barrel is just fine. I like to hit up the local spots on my adventures. Nothing like seeing what happens in other parts of the country.

Why dont we plan on the Cracker Barrel at Slickstock? I am sure it could cure a case of the gatorade revenge.

If you go through Chattanooga, TN (I-75) there are a few micro breweries you might like: Moccasin Bend Brewing Company, The Terminal Brew House (which is also a great restaurant next to the historic Chattanooga Choo Choo) and Big River Grille and Brew Works which is a mini-chain regionally. For local food, Master Blasters is real good barbeque and Beas's Restaurant is famous for it's fried chicken and home-cooked food. Famous Dave's is a chain, but is one of my all-time favorite restaurants. If you like Italian food, Portofino's in East Ridge is excellent (they have Greek fare as well).

Biltmore Estate in Ashville is impressive, plan half a day at least. See what being rich is really about!

The Andy Griffith show is based on Mt Airy NC, kind of a neat little town not far away.

Don Garlits is a must.

Floyd Garrett Muscle Car Museum in Sevier Ville, TN is worth the trip. There's also a neat aquarium in Gattlinburg just down the road.

Have a fun trip,
SPark
