63 Wheel Cylinder Question

Post by Gritsngumbo »

I started reworking the brakes on my F250 Long Flare with 8 lug wheels. It has a good little Y-Block in it, so the go's no problem, but the whoa is a problem.

I started from the rear and as I was taking things apart I seem to remember that either the front or rear wheel cylinders on the 63's were different from the norm. Can anyone confirm if this is true and if it's the fronts or the rears that area different. Looked them up at Rock Auto and there's no mention of a difference. The left rear was dry when disassembled so the hose my just be bad but the cylinder seems to be smooth so my be OK to rebuild.

some fronts have only 1 piston(single acting). you can replace them with the double but you also need to get the little piece that actually pushes on the shoe.

Just Got Through Upgrading The Brakes On My 64' F-250, The Front Wheel Cylinders Were The Single Piston Type.. I Had Intended On Using The Dual-Piston Cylinders, But Couldn't Find A Way To Make Them Fit. Good Luck With Your Project........................................

Wonder what their prices are like? Didn't see a price list.

Nothing wrong with the single-sided cylinders. More front brake effort on the heavier 3/4 ton truck. They don't work as well when backing up, so be careful when you are launching a boat!
