Voltage regulator

Post by sixty6 »

How important is the voltage regulator? I understand that it was put there for a purpose in 1966, but, I would like to get rid of the wires if possible.

Can I remove it without the risk of ill effects? Note: the truck has been completely rewired with the use of a rebel wiring kit. Only have a couple of wires left. One of them being the alt exciter wire in the kit...

If you have a alternator that uses a external regulator its very important.

If you don't understand the use of a regulator, please don't try to change it out by yourself.
A voltage regulator keeps the flow of charging current at an even level so you don't over charge and burn up your battery.
You can buy a one wire alternator and get rid of the old generator/ alternator and regulator (they are NOT the same thing), but it requires moving some other wires around. Find a member near you and get them to show you how.
Good luck
I'm not arguing with you. I'm just explaining why I'm right.
Pardon me. Does your deaug bite?

Skip. I will probably have my alt converted to a 1 wire just to save myself some hassle. The new wiring harness does not have accomodations for regulator.
