Problems.....

Got my truck back yesterday and I have some problems.

1st = My stupid truck won't run. It is a 302 HO motor and I have the right firing order. I have an 85 mustang distributor with an MSD 6a box and MSD coil. No matter how much or which way you turn the distributor, it acts like it doesn't want to start. When you unplug the MSD box, it spins over with no problem. It is carburated. We had it TDC, I'm at a loss?

Also, when it did run a bit, took down the road and she is squirly...bump steer like crazy. It's lowered in front, how do you get rid of this?

How do you mean?, it spins over no problems!, does it start?, I had a similar problem with my MSD Billet dizzy, thought it was the MSD box to start with, but after changing box`s, it turned out too be the magnetic pick up in the dizzy!

If you unplug the MSD box, the motor spins over free and fast. When you plug in the box, it draws the battery down real hard and acts like it needs advanced on the timing. It is getting spark and all, but just won't kick over.

When you timed the distributor at TDC, did you have it at TDC on the COMPRESSION STROKE? You could have the distributor 180 degrees off.

Nope. Had it on the right stroke. I'm curious, why do I need an MSD box anyway if I have an electronic distributor and a coil?

You have a distributor with an electronic pickup. The box provides a way to convert that signal to something that fires the plugs.

MSD is a good one to use because it fires the plug three consecutive times at any RPM below 3,000. That really improves idle quality and low end performance. Hence MSD or Multiple Spark Discharge.

Well I figured it out. My battery may be bad. I put a super charge to the battery and the truck kicked over and ran. When I didn't have the charger providing the extra juice, it would barely turn over. So one problem solved.

I took it for a spin down the road. When I was shifting from 2nd to 3rd, it wanted to go all over the road. Lots of play or something and it doesnt want to shift to third very well. Man, this thing is wearing me out.....
