Time for a new windshied :(

Got a chip in the middle of the windshield that tuned into a 2 ft line in 2 short days.
My current glas is LOF and I've never really been happy with it. 3-4 chips already.
Any advicei on good glass. I prefer Carlite, but I'm guessing Carlite doesnt make these any more, but I could be wrong.
Any votes on best, or what I shold avoid....(will install myself)

when i bought a windshield i found a Carlite.... twice as much as the Pilkington i ended up buying, i think you can find PPG glass also.

i have no problems with the pilkington, it's OEM quality

I had my uni windshield laying on a pad, and I think it just broke form long term stress... or maybe a broken heart

i have several stored on a seat with headliners between them. so far ok. have a few still in trucks too. i try to keep the snow cleaned off the good ones.

The Steelers played on Sunday? huh, I was in the garage sanding and scraping the rear frame...oh well maybe 'll catch them on Dancing with the stars...something they seem to be able win.

Well, I'm back on the windshield question. (This was my experience)

I just put one in, I had a guy try 2 Pilkingtons and a PPG, none of them was the same shape as the original one I took out.

So it was left up to me since the glass guys gave up.

I used a Pilkington that was close to the contour of my old windshield.

After 3 attemps to put it in , I finally really soaped the rubber and the pinchweld and it finally went in.

Mine has the ss trim around it which was problematic.

Make sure you use a Dennis Carpenter rubber seal.

I don't think any of the new stuff fits as well as original--but with time and patience they will work.

White, if your in Pittsburgh your not to far from me up near Erie. Sorry to hear about the windshield Cosmo. one of the few things its almost impossible to repair.

this was discussed last year, brought up by someone that
mentioned the original factory windshields were curved in both directions while the replacement aftermarkets are only curved in the one.

I didn't do too bad either, The glass shop guy I got the windshield from wanted some 84 Corvette wheels I had--so we traded--

I only had $40.00 in the wheels

He couldn't get the winshield in so I had to do it--still not a bad deal!
