65 F100 Body Drop

Post by SLAUGHTERHAUS FAB »

Has anyone body dropped a 65 F100? I am looking for some general info on what and where to cut and how to do the bed. I want to lower the truck but the kits available don't go low enough to give the stance I want and really don't want to get into a load of money just to lower it. How much have guys been paying for the newer crown vic front ends and can you bag them fairly easy? Might have to bite the bullet for a mustang 2 but am wondering how long parts will remain available for them.

I'm also looking into cutting the long bed and frame down to a short bed if anyone has good info about that.

If you have an LKQ (Pick a Part) in your area which offers the Thanksgiving holiday weekend 1/2 price sales, you should be able to buy a CV front for around 150.00, if available.
Be sure to bring a cordless 1/2 impact and an able-bodied friend. Certainly keep all the hardware.

what are you trying to achieve?
laying rockers or just a lower stance. a "body drop" or channel is a shit load of work. a properly built 61-63 i know will lay rockers without cutting the floor, never messed with a 65, but i doubt there much different as far as cab mount heights and such go.

Have you seen UNIFAN's build thread? It may help answer some of your questions: http://fordtruk.com/forums/viewtopic.ph ... sc&start=0

It appears his truck is able to drop right into the weeds with minimal floor modifications, if any. Just a front and rear Z in the frame, along with a raised bed floor.

throw in a jaguar front suspension and you have the desired stance that you are looking for. do a search in hints and tricks and see matt's f100.

i'm going for it. i throw out my dropped i beams and get me a jag front and rear on airride if static is not low enough.

Just go out to your truck and look and see if the frame hangs below the rocker. If not than you'll lay body once you notch the rear and figure out which front suspension you want to use. Then bag it or put hydros on it and you're set. You could keep it twin I-beam if you so chose.

Joey chopped/ butchered a perfectly good cab years ago by cutting the floor out and never finished it.
Not saying it can't be done, just that you really should consider what the finished results will look like and will it be worth all that trouble.
Slicks are a lot different that the old F-1's with a flat floor because of the cab mounts and supports.
My dos centavos worth.

Do yourself a favor and do a 61-64 truck. Way fewer issues to deal with.

if you want to lay rocker install a jag ifs and z the chassis in the front make a c notch in the back and your done. you don't have to cut the cab and bed.
maybe it is easyer to do this.

when i did my 65 few years ago i clipped it with a camaro subframe and then put 2x4 in side the frame rails uinder the cab and choped off the bottom 2-3 inches ( cant remember exactly how much it was. only have to do bout 3 feet of the frame on each side. not very tough at all.... once you do that it will lay flat like a 61-64 frame
