A friend in Houston whose Dad owned a wrecking yard built a very similar Uni in the Mid-70's. That was when I first found the F-250 front brakes and hubs would fit.
He was building it for his girlfriend, and I remember wood blocks for the spring spacing.
I can't remember details of the truck, but do remember that the rear came from "something in the yard"
Same truck, I don't know. He moved back to Alabama years ago, and I do remember an Alaskan camper on the truck for a while. The extra tank would also be typical of his approach.
He was building himself a 65 or 66 "Uni", but I don't think that one ever got finished.

I bought this one from a guy in CT.
He bought it off ebay about 7 years ago from somewhere south or west (everything is south or west to us in New England). If I recall the mother (or girlfriend...all I remember is it was a woman) of the person who sold it on ebay drove it as a daily driver.

I'll PM the PO to see if he remembers where it came from and ask him if he remembers it having a camper


It sure would help to know what is what on this. 8lugs up front, 8 in the back. possible chevy/eaton rear end from an early 70s K20/C20. It has a 4sp, but Im not sure what kind. maybe NP435?.
I do know it's a 292, and a unibody. HA HA hell of a start.

looked at eaton rear ends on line and the bolts look really similar. especially the center fill, the 3 bolts on the bottom and the the two close together on the sides

That could be an Eaton rearend could have been swaped in from a GMC they were used back then.

Sounds like trying to determine what brake shoes will fit on this rearend housing just got a little more complicated......

I guess I'll see what it's like on the inside and if it runs. there is a dana 60 in the next town over out of a 62 f250 uni for $250. might be better off in that direction and just sell this thing to some rock/mudder guy

its attached, likely runs fine and theres no issues -the same tires/wheels fit the d60 and you can get shoes for it if needed.

dont spend $ on stuff you dont need to do to make it run/drive.
$250 goes a long way towards other stuff the truck needs more

very true, and these might have had a no spin locker in them and 4:10 gears, supposed to be stronger than a dana60.
I'll drain the oil, pull the cover, inspect, and refill with gear oil and move on.

ok so in the dash of this frankenUni there is a beze that says, "INTER-AXLE DIFFERENTIAL"


Now i don't have a 4x4 but I do have a chevy/eaton rear end that may or may not have a no-spin diff. I guess my question is, what did these bezel originally come in, and secondly if I just have a 2wd what good would it do me to have there other than taking up a hole in the dash. at first I thought it was just a flasher unit till i actually read the stupid thing.

There is one on ebay now. it says 63 and up so I guess that answers some of my questions, but was it a 4x4 thing?

Gregg its from a tandem axle truck, like a T850
the light is on when both rear ends are live
i have a few of those from T series i parted out.
some parts from those Ts are usable on small slicks

i have another light like that it says RETARDER

That GM rear end most likely came out of a GMC since the should let lays had a coil spring and trailing arm rear suspension up to the early 70s while the GMCs had leaf springs and I think the frames are the same width as the Fords making it a bolt in.
