What have you done to your slick today??
Re: What have you done to your slick today??
Bought a NOS water pump rebuild kit at DC for the 292. Broke a gear puller jaw trying to get the pump apart. Put that away and started working on my winch.

Re: What have you done to your slick today??
worked on my slick for about 2 hours tonight. I first seperated the front stone guard from the core support and also the grill. Those bolts were a pita!!! i had to cut them like spliting a carrot then chisel the pieces away, then grind that end of the bolt...
eventually i got it, then I worked on removing some rusted metal with the grinder, and also worked on the front core support frame area, and the inner fender area below the battery.
frame rail
grill, stone deflector, etc...
core support and its rust
under battery box, inner fender

Re: What have you done to your slick today??
Finally got to drive the truck for the past few days after all the time with the truck torn apart for wiring and what not. Today i mocked up a switch panel for the headliner so I can finally wire and install the stereo and switches. Once everything works well I'll have to figure out how the heck im gonna upholster that headliner.

Re: What have you done to your slick today??
drove it
had to make a little trip just under 50 miles total
got to go up and down some 6% grades
4.56 gears make it easy
filled up the gas tank and got some paint for my back bumper.
might paint it later on if the wind dies down.

Re: What have you done to your slick today??
Harper. My inner fender wasn't nearly as bad as yours but it did have a big honking hole in it. So I cut the hole square and built a battery box to put in the hole. Worked out pretty good.
When you get lemons, make lemonade. If you get S*it forget the S*it sandwich's and go find another inner fender.
This is the original engine compartment.
Here is the new version and the rewiring components.
The battery box makes a neat place to store parts when you're working on "stuff".

I'm not arguing with you. I'm just explaining why I'm right.

That battery box makes an EXCELLENT tool box Skipper !
Re: What have you done to your slick today??
I like that uncle Skip....
today I removed the insulation out of the interior, along with the windsheild wiper motor/hardware, all my switches out of my dash, the rest of my wiring from under the dash, removed the pedals, clutch rod, brake booster, heat box/motor/duct work, vent boxes, (everything except the windsheild and back glass) this thing is almost ready for the blaster....
oh and I picked up all of my other parts from the blaster...

Re: What have you done to your slick today??
800 miles of rain and the towtruck is at the shop! The borrowed trailer was just slightly too narrow for the duals, and just slightly too tall for the truck bed. Removed one outer dual, enlisted a convenient fork truck to lift the rear of the bed to clear the rear sides of the trailer, and presto, a great fit with good tongue weight. We headed back to Tejas, checking tire and bearing temperatures at each stop. One tire had been consistently slightly hotter than the others, but of little concern, since all four appeared to be quite new. This one had a different thread design than the others. My son checked the tires at a stop abouit 100 miles from home and noted the tire felt somewhat "sticky". A pressure check indicated it had dropped to 30 psi. Since neither of us particularily wanted to unload everything in the rain to get to the spare and install it, we slowly progressed to the next town. By that time a bulge the size of a football had formed on the inner sidewall. One new tire later, we made it on back. While unloading the truck, I evidently got up against a sharp edge on the trailer side, blowing out the one new tire on the towtruck! Oh, well I have a pretty good matched set somewhere.
Since it's supposed to continue raining here tomorrow, and I need to rest up instead of tackling split rims, I will probably contract out the tire swapping.
After 10 months and 1300 miles (900 under it's own power), at least the towtruck is home!
Now I've got to fix all the new problems by next Friday (as well as make a living), since a local chamber of commerce is sponsoring a car show Saturday, with the Friday night prelude being an outdoor, drive-in type showing of, guess what well-known car- related animated film

Re: What have you done to your slick today??
Yesterday I put a Pertronix ignition in it. Today I drove it for the first time in a couple weeks.
Re: What have you done to your slick today??
Started header and steering mock-up!
Re: What have you done to your slick today??
Moved ballast resistor to BAT side of coil and ran a (temporary) wire from solenoid to coil. Went back to 5 psi electric fuel pump. Tow truck sounds much healthier now, but unable to test drive until tires are swapped. Sprayed some degreaser in the general vicinity of the engine compartment, too rainy to get serious about it.
Cleaned the outer face of core support on 61 prior to grille re-installation.
Started on pattern for gravel guard for 65 long bed, but soon rained out.

Took a nice long drive in her last night for no reason at all. Shes running much better now with the new MSD dizzy and what not. And its amazing what a difference the new harness made in how bright all the lights are.
