Great how-to article here from Hotrod Mag. on replacing floor pans. I replaced mine with no prior know-how or skill, just simply using the internet for info and how-to's when I'd get stuck. Didn't turn out perfect but no one will ever know, except me...and I ain't talkin

that article helps. I guess my biggest question was do I try and drill out the spot welds before installing the new pan...answer is definely YES...
I put a set of pans in a 70 bronco once and it turned out pretty good. I drilled every hole and welded thru them...I just was trying to get around the hard route...but I have since figured out, there is only one way, the hard way lol

seems everything I had my sand blaster guy do, was in vain, I need a shed for this truck, and will have to strip it down to bare metal again to be happy with it...pissin me off....

I have a couple questions though....which set of holes do my engine mounts mount in? I have them at least ready to install if I know which set of holes to use....

Can't remember for the life of me! In my case it is always the set I chose not to use. I'll check on my neighbor's 302 if no one answers. Don't feel too bad about the stripping, mine set in the shop and I have one which will have to be stripped and re-primed, and several others with marked deterioration since I absconded from the Midwest with them.

Yea its pretty sad that our beloved trucks have to sit while we find time and money to restore them...

bought my son a "Igniter" points replacement yesterday, hope this thing works with years of trouble free service.
I plan on pulling his tank and cleaning it, there is either one of two things hindering his truck running good, fuel tank rust, or points were screwed up. I should know by the weekend. wish me luck.

I need this thing running soon, as I may be putting a paint job on it for my sons Christmas present from me (either a chepo spray glow paint for now with body work fixed, or I will attempt to paint it myself) I don't mind painting it, however I am no body man, so thinking the first time I will get a spray glow paint job, then I can move on to the mechanics for now, then later on down the road he can either let me paint it and help me or take it somewhere good.

If you have the body work done the way you want (prep is what makes a good paint job) go down to your local Earl Scheib paint store, buy the cheapest option they have, take your own paint and tell the manager there's an extra C-note in cash in it for him if it turns out the way you want it.

All those guys can lay down paint, its the prep work that makes or breaks a paint job.
The extra hunnie will make sure its done right.
Cheapest way I know of to get a good paint job without doing it yourself.

sanded and primed my core support today, my access doors for the front cab mounts, and one of my rear cab mounts...still looking for the other one

floor pans are in, both sides, and under the cab is undercoated with some spray can from rust olem.... still trying to decide what all else needs minor welding repair...
about ready to say Screw it and just put this thing together.
I am so ready to ride in this thing....

question:
if there is minor flash rust under epoxy primer will it keep it from rusting further?
I mean if its not getting oxygen, then is again primed and sanded then painted will it keep the flash rust at bay?
I need to know because if I am going to have to restrip this whole thing I am gonna just flat out be pissed.

Just my opinion based on industrial epoxy primers, but flash rust tends to weaken the bond to the metal. I'd be afraid of future peeling.

ok fellas a little help. Which Engine Stand (frame to motor mount) is taller Drivers side or Passengers side? ok never mind the tallest is the drivers side(found it on fordtification)

also if someone could which ones fit:

• 302

evidently the 302/351 Windsor are 1" shorter than the Inline 6/ 390 FE Stands

• 429-460

• 390

• 6 cylinder

I have (3) sets of frame stands for 390 (also same as Inline 6) 4 sale or trade

at least i did something Positive to my old slick today!!
my plans are a little at a time...and consistently. Hopefully I can get motivated. My 73 project truck and 90 other projects are taking up all my time...
sadly this is probably short lived, it will probably be removed before to long and 429/460 stands will replace it. I have a set ordered and on the way
