As a kid, a friend of mine's dad went out and bought a new granada. The kid gave him a hard time about it, he'd bring up the commercials comparing the granada to a mercedes. Remember those?

why would anyone buy anything but a ford anyway? I always think its silly when people see cars as investments. my mom asked me how much my truck is worth after seeing how much effort I have put into it. some people just dont get it.

The real axles are disk brake and the Mustang guys look for em all the time.
They have some cockeyed Chebby bolt pattern and are hard to get parts for, the disc brake swap out of the ford racing catalog is a better option.
You DO have a Ford Racing Catalog, don't you? :nono:

Actually. we run sled dogs around in the 97 degree heat and rarely actually spend the $1.14 on gas per quart that it would take to get out of your front yard , without a sled team
lordy them sled dogs drink a lot of bottled water tho.

I actually saw an article on cars you should look for if you wanted to buy something that would be collectible in the future and a certain model of the Granada listed. It seems that a few were made with the 5.0 and 4 speed setup from the mustangs of that era. I don't remember how many but it sounded like they were pretty rare. (You just never know!!)

I own 1/114 in Canada of a Canadian made car. Of which they only ever made 2800. And, mine runs, can't say that about all the other 113 :?
Unless you are Bill, owner of the F-100XL, don't talk to me about rare. ;)

Granadas rare.

Yeah the 14000 in the local junkyard can be heard laughing from here.

The cover article in this months Mustang Monthly is:
BEST BUYS
There are still some good deals out there!
Here is an exerpt.

Fox in your future?

Although it's hard to think of them this way. 79-93 Mustangs have become classics. They're the same age as 65-73 Mustangs when interest in them turned around in the late 70s. The 85-93 Mustang GT is simbolic of Ford performance back then, paving the way for the 05-07 GT. The carburated 85 GT is recognized for it's roller-tappet technology and simple wonderfulness without a computer- it only had a Ford engineered Holley carburator with a dual snorkel air cleaner and shorty headers.
Some of those "safekeeping" buyers, disappointed in appreciation that didn't happen, are selling. If you can buy a 85-93 GT or Cobra for its original sticker price, it's a smokin' deal. The same can be said for the 84 20th Anniversary Edition GT hatchbacks and convertables. With an anniversary Turbo 4 convertable, you'll have something unusual parked in your garage - Ford only built 104 of them.
While limited production SVOs can be pricey, some are a bargain. Most sellers understand the SVO's significance - and good deals are found when they don't.
Another good buy, fox body Mustangs in original factory condition include the 79 Indy 500 Pace Car, 79-81 Cobra with a Turbo four cylinder, 82 GT, 83-84 GT convertable, 83-84 GT Turbo, 84-86 SVO, 85 GT (last year for carburated Mustangs), 93 SVT Cobra and 94-95 GT and Cobra.

This was typed verbatum from the article.

The beginning of this thread reminded me of the definition of "status"

Status: Is when you buy something you don't really want, with money you don't really have, to impress people you don't really like!

Does this mean I should get rid of my 70,000 mile 1979 Granada with a 302 and a stock 9" rearend?
If you drove a Ford, you wouldn't need a good wrench!

My brother's first car was a '77 Monarch. My dad bought it for him for $200. Metallic brown, vinyl roof. It came with a straight six, but that was later replaced with a 302, and the paint was covered with red primer...

Good times. That car is rotting away in the bush somewhere right now. I seem to remember someone telling my dad that it was a shame that the original motor was replaced, as doing so adversely affected the collector value...

Granadas, there used to be one over in Council Bluffs a white 5.0 Granada with the disc rear 9", no vinyl top, blacked out trim, black and gold or copper color stripes and had the magnum 500 style wheels that were done with gold or copper colored spokes. It was as built by Ford, was obviously some sort of sport package, I also remember it had bucket seats, white interior. I think it was an earlier car with round headlights. Gotta wonder if it was a 4 speed. I think I got all that right I haven't seen it for probably 25 years+. It actually wasn't a bad looking car done like that.

84 Turbo GT verts (non anniversary), only about 600 were made. 84 Turbo GTs weren't a big seller because of the release of the SVOs later that year.

85 GT verts, 5549 were made, with only the 5 speed cars being roller cam engined that leaves an estimate of what, 2750? There is one round here for sale, I have to go look at it yet but it's sposed to be a pretty nice car cept for a "badly leaking engine"? But with a restored value in the 22K+ range is likely worth my time to go peek at it, they are asking $2000 for it.

Reading these posts seems to point out that the majority of the members here just seem to want a nice simple dependable non-computer pickup that they can take care of themselves.

I think I just described myself.

yep WTF were they thinking with that metallic brown.. shame a priceless classic like that was ruined by taking out it's anemic six
probably a rare one two, I think I personally have only seen about 7 million brown metallic Granadas and Monarchs. Better hang on to that one a while longer, TF greg. Destined to be one of those Status cars... or you could part it out for the disc brakes, 9" and 302... and probably quadruple it's value..

Geez, now I'm really kicking myself. A guy in my neighborhood had a triple black 84 Turbo GT vert for sale last summer. At first, he was asking $2,000...it sat & sat. Then one day I drove by & noticed $500 on windshield! I was on my way to work...I pondered knocking on the door & giving him $50 to hold it, but I decided to just stop by with money after work.
It was gone by the time I got home. :(

Don't kick yourself too hard. I have seen several times, those turbo 4's listed as Ford's worst motor, EVER. They truly were a piece of junk by all accounts... ask anyone who blew one up. 8)

They actually got alot better after Ford went to the "blow through" EFI system. It was the earlier cars with the boost blowing in under the carb that had real issues. Of course one of the issues was people tightening the bolts on the waste gate to up the boost to like 10+ lbs on an engine that wasn't designed for about 7 lbs. The 84 Mustangs had the later system, not really alot different than the SVO just no intercooler and less boost. I seem to remember something about improved oiling to the turbo too, that was also an issue with older versions. Some people killed their turbo cars early on too, they run the oil 5000 miles and turbo cars should have it changed every 2000 miles. The oil breaks down faster because of the high heat generated in the turbo it runs through.

There are some ridiculously sick big block ones on 460ford.com.

My buddy has a silver and black one with an aluminum front bumper
and a fiberglass hood.
Its like 2500lbs and runs 10s with a stroked 351 windsor.

They have NO style but are a great platform for speed parts
I like the sleeperness, sleeperism, what ever. You know the sneak up on you part of them. Who would ever expect a Granada to run in the 10s.
