Re: Another dumb paint question
I'd check with your powder coater as this is not something that is normally done. Powder coat might be difficult to sand either because it is too hard, or it might retain some pliability. I don't imagine a clear would eb able to lift the powder coat. You could try sanding a small portion of the backside first.
Re: Another dumb paint question
It's done by bikers and in industries where they have an item powder coated and then either graphics or decals applied over it, then cleared for protection. I would pose the question on autobody101.com as there are a lot of great paint professionals on there (not that there aren't here but whatever).
Seems many just use a gray scotchbrite pad to scuff the surface, then apply whatever type of clear you plan on using - enamel or laquer.

Not sure why a cc would be needed unless as Max stated, but his answer is correct.

I would stay away from laquer, it is just not durable enough for a DD IMO.

Re: Another dumb paint question
Thanks for the come backs. The reason I wanted to cc it was because the truck has clear coats on it over black and I thought it might look better with cc.
Re: Another dumb paint question
Is it powder coated white or silver?
The color will affect the look after clear.
Either way a touch less shine and or depth would probably look more "original",
if that is what you want for a look - I'd leave it.
Powder coating is pretty tough stuff - I doubt you'll need the clear for protection.
