Bad carb?

Post by Godlover »

How can I tell if I have a bad carb? The carb that came on my nonrunning 223 wasn't made for it and it was Micky moused together. However I got the truck running by hanging gas. Picked up a second 223 motor and tranny for $75 and the guy said he put a carb kit in it but couldn't get the truck running right.
He opted for a350 he had sitting around and that's how I got the motor. Put the carb on mine and it starts right up using starter fluid but won't stay running. I am getting gas. Any suggestions? Anyone have a good carb for a 223 they want to sell? Frustrated!

Both carbs will run if you feed them gas without using the fuel pump?

I have an engine that is coming out of my '62 uni, you can have that one if you want it, engine tranny and all (block is supposedly cracked). I'll even deliver!

Let me get a pic of mine tomorrow and I'll post it here tomorrow some time to see if there is anythig you can use. It really sounds like your fuel pump, filter or line is the problem if 2 carbs wont work without being fed gas.

Are you getting fuel through the carb, or just TO the carb?

What do you want for the carb? I would be interested in the carb for sure as the guy who put the kit in the one I have said parts where missing on the inside when he got mine. He had the same problem on the other engine and the first carb was really cobbled. I have gas to the carb but forgot to see if it is getting thru it! I can do that. I removed the tank and cleaned it. Have a new fuel filter on it.

I have been looking for the little linkage ball that goes on the carb, if anyone has an extra.

I need the linkage piece between the throttle linkage and the carb. You can get the linkage ball at a parts store.

If any of it will do you any good, I'll drop it off in Des Moines!

I went out and tried it and it started! Wow! But I could use the link that attaches the throttle linkage to the carb. It is the small piece.

Will any of these pieces work for you? If so, your welcome to them.

You can have the entire engine and tranny if you want them. I am 3 bolts from pulling it out, then it's in my way. I'll even deliver!

I would take all the throttle linkage from manifold and including the carb if you want to pull it for me. I already have an extra engine but not the linkage so I don't need two engines to step around!! HA!!! How often to you get to Des Moines or up near Newton? If my schedule works I would meet you to get the parts.

thanks!

I'll pull the carb and all the linkage. I am headed to Tennessee either tomorrow or Thursday and Texas on Friday/Saturday. Could probably get together first of next week if that works for you.
