"Dash Light"

I Noticed That My Dash Lights Only Come On When Using The High Beams. Click Off High Beams And Dash Lights Go Out. Anyone Dealt With This Issue Before? Everything Else Functions Perfectly.

Kinda weird! Since the dash illumination is not originally dependent on beam selection; it is likely a ground issue, or the lamps are somehow cross-wired with the high beam indicator.

Yeah The PO Had Rigged A Toggle Switch Under The Dash To Operate The Lights On The Headache-Rack. Now Due To His Jank & Splice Looks Like I'm The One With The Headache. Guess I Can Just Drive With The High-Beams On For Now Until I Get This Figured Out. Thanks......

If you want to continue the mess; just locate the supply wire to the dimmer switch and jumper from tha t wire to the dash light wire. I believe that will be a brown wire, but it should be easy to determine at any illumination bulb socket.

I wonder if the rheostat on the switch is burned out and the po rewired it to make the dash lights work.

My guess is that it is a ground fault. i would pull the panel, and ground it to the truck with jumper cables. See if it still does it. If it does, then pull the high beam indicator out and see. If it still does then, pop a dash light out, ground the metal ring and see if it works, just to be sure. If the fault still exists you have the high beam indicator circuit hooked into the dash light circuit somehow. If stuff works normally earlier, you have bad grounds. run a ground jumper from the panel to a known good ground if it is a ground fault, so you dont have to rely on the screws to ground it. if it persists we at slick60s have enough brains and know how between the mess of us to figure it out.

All true and grounding issues will drive you nuts. If you have a sweep (plastic housing) speed o I'll bet the ground wire is missing. From the factory these were to short and often get broken. I'd check for that first.

Thanks For Sharing All The Valuable Insight. In October I'm Going To Pull The Cheap Aftermarket Cassette Player The PO Implanted Into The Dash And Patch The Gaping Hole. (Hopefully I Can Find A Piece Of Sheet-Metal Capable Of Spanning This Yawning Chasm) I Plan On Addressing The Wiring Issues And Installing A Factory Correct Radio I Scored Courtesy Of Iceman Via Ezernut9mm..

Is your bulbs really burning on bright or are you getting light from your bright light indicator bulb that makes it appear they are on?

The Lights Come On Just Fine. I Click The High-Beams On And The Dash Illuminates Along With The Red High Beam Indicator Light....
