tonneau's again

Post by merc uni »

I know this has come up before, but here goes. I have a lwb unibody and would like a soft cover. The only listing for our trucks that I can find is from Extang. Specifically Black Max #2335. Says 1961-66. Obviously the beds differ. My thinking is I could make small filler plates for the curve at the cab, if the length and width were close. My question is has anybody actually used this product on a unibody? I don't want to spend a lot on this, and if it would work I would be most happy.

I think you are going to have to do some "engineering" on the Uni bed in order for it to fit and not leak. I'm sure they are designed to fit the style side trucks. I was looking at a way to do so on one of my long Uni's before I tore my truck apart, so it's a moot point for now.
If you understand what you’re doing, you’re not learning anything.

My :2cents: It looks like it may work pretty good. Maybe you can bring your truck down to a dealer and have him fit just that bed / cab rail so you can see. (Take pics for us!) Another option I was looking at was you could order the toolbox version and make a filler panel like you were talking about, the panel would be larger in that case but give you lot's to work with.

Well I rolled the dice and ordered an Extang black max 2335. This was the only one that had a listed number for a 61-66 long box. I have a long unibody, but after comparing measurements with a non uni, it seemed pretty close. Easy install, nice product. I made 2 small filler pieces for the front of the box where it curves, and it went on in less than an hour. It is about 3/4 of an inch to long, and overhangs the tailgate slightly. A little weatherstripping fixed it. The extra length is very hard to notice, and I feel lucky that everything else worked out. All in all I'm very happy with it.

Hi, I am new to the forum but have been reading here since I got my '66 F250 back in November. I put an Extang Full Tilt (8335) on my longbed F250 and it fits, looks and works great.
