If she aint leaking- she's out of oil...

before anyone calls the NRC (national response center) regarding the oil sheen, it had just rained a deluge and there are a few factors that caused a small sheen.
The truck is almost 70 years old. I filled oil the other day and spilled a little down the side of the block. I dont think I got it all wiped up.
The transmission/rear splash plate on my 223 has a drop or three of oil on it after every drive.
I took it to the car show. Cost was $20 to join the day and they sold food and drinks. There was a judging going on for all cars /trucks and they are all in the same "class"
there were 20 trophies. 200 or so cars in the lot and it seemed the same chevelles won again. The one that got best in show- was bought- not built.
The 90s pickup trucks and a old 90s big bronco with rusted body panels also won. More 90s cars winning than anything older it seems. Even the 83 Deloreon that I was parked next to all day won.

and my build board came in a day late, but that is okay.

Re: my shipwrecked '63
well- I am in Old Dominion University full time under my GI Bill and decided to get a part time job to help supplement income while I wait for VA to be done evaluating me.
I got a job at my old training center I worked at in 17-19 about 7 miles from the house.
I work in their auto hobby shop part time. mostly weekends- making sure kids dont drop their cars on their heads.

took a sweet full moon pic the other night as I was closing the shop.

drove shipwrecked to the shop on sunday.

my 63 going 45 down a historic battlefield road.

Re: my shipwrecked '63
Update on new project plan.
There are two things I am looking to do but not sure which I am going to run with.
Have an opportunity to purchase a 1979 Cherokee for 2k locally. it has a 360ci v8. Body appears in good condition.
or buy a 50s Willy's wagon body and a jeep TJ and body swap the wagon onto the TJ drive train/frame. Probably cost 2k for a wagon body, and maybe another 4k for the TJ and would need to run up to NJ or down to NC to get them.
I'm leaning toward the Cherokee. It has back row seat and a cargo area to put stuff.
Here's what's the deal. this may not be a thing in a few years as relationships come and go.
I am seeing a guy who lives in Alabama. He is retired CG as well, and just completed a walk across the USA for veteran suicide awareness. He is going to be doing a Appalachian trail trip with other Coasties in two years. He needs a truck or a wagon of some sort for a support vehicle for the trip. One that can be wrapped with information on the body to display what the purpose is.
I'm not abandoning the F100 or my 52 M38. Though I have thought of selling the jeep and trailer to a buddy who wants a Army M38.
We shall see.
So that's what's going on in the CoastieReid YouTube life (shipwrecked, Salty and Bert - the trailer) world.
If I do this, I will need to move the jeep out of the garage. Likely to the backyard again or find a place to rent a garage to stow it. or just sell it.

Re: my shipwrecked '63
Never owned a Jeep. My experience as a mechanic the older Cherokees are pretty sturdy compared to the latter 90's models. A customer had an 82 and 84 Cherokee both had 360s. He said milage was 12-13 with out a trailer. Either of them pulled a camper well.
In case you hear negative things about the Jeep they may be talking about the latter models. An older mechanic will probably have more experience than me with the models up to 1988. Other than the inline six I don't recall 90s model Cherokees holding up well. Bodies and wiring weren't very sturdy.

Re: my shipwrecked '63
I am not worried about engine of this model- its got the 360. Though they did convert it to propane for offroading- which i would want to take out.
The current wheels are too big. too wide- wrong tread for all terain (road and some offroad).
The more pictures they showed me of the body- its got a lot of rust- but i am good at fixing it as it puts me in a zen to weld body panels. i am not good at bondo work, but i guess i can keep working on it.
Will see in a few days if this deal still is on. I am down for it.

Re: my shipwrecked '63
Talking with the seller of the 79 cherokee, he mentioned he has another 360 with a manual transmission willing to sell for 500. Worth it?
Currently it has a 360 with automatic. I kind of want them to rebuild, but I do plan to keep the 360 with automatic in it for the purpose of this build.
So- maybe I will hold off on the spare engine and transmission. I also have to consider where I would store it. This jeep will have to be a driveway dweller. Or in the grass right next to my driveway. Because I need to be able to get the M38 and F100 out of the garage.
Plan to pick up the cherokee on Monday.
Sure felt weird going to my only brick/mortar bank and using my online only bank to get cash out. That was a weird experience because they ask you a bunch of questions (probably to make sure I am not getting held hostage/extorted).

Can't say on the engine. It is an AMC 360 and I've never opened one up other than valve cover and intake gaskets. I remember the ones I worked on used Ford ignition and much if not all of the steering column components were GM. They used Chryslers 727 transmission.

Re: my shipwrecked '63
My secret Santa brought me some LED lights for Shipwrecked!

I had this on my secret santa list for a while. I can't remember who this is, but on the Facebook slick 60's there was a guy D's Nuts who made the kits. This is one of the kits.
the secret Santa for the family started way back in 2006. In 2005, I was stationed in the isolated duty station in Port Clarence, which was 20 people and only accessible by aircraft. I spent the year up there.
Anyway, eBay and amazon i think were the only options I had to purchase gifts for family, and it felt insane I was spending so much on adults who can buy their own stuff. I couldn't accept packages up in my location unless I paid $10.00 per package to be delivered to me on top of the high price of shipping to Alaska.
Anyway, limit at the time was $50 to now 100. One gift for the adult you are paired with, and each kid under age 18 gets a gift from the adults.
Merry Christmas all.

My friend Mike. Coastie.
I remember him telling me in 2017 he was leaving Cape May to pursue his career as an officer down in NC so he could be near his daughter- who just turned 13 a week ago.
