Thats funny, not so true but funny as hell, My 06 is built better than any other truck ever made, anyone want to see just check out one sometime, youll be amazed at how solid it is. 26k on it and not a single squeak or rattle. the rids is solid and feels like a truck with comfort. you try to put 25k per year on a slick and youl lspend half the time on the hook or in a shop fixing shit. plus youll pay for it all. I love all of them but the facts are the facts. I used to feel the same way back when I couldnt afford to buy one. I work my ass off for this vehicle. and when its paid for ill drive it until the wheels fall off.

I love my old truck, I don't want to haul anything else with it except a cooler and lawn chairs and only commute is to a car show or cruise nite.

charlie, I hear you. I would love to use my 64 for work, but I cant rely on it for this much mileage I have 26k on my 06 and put another ten on my 78. I cant have leaks on my customers driveways thats not very good for our business. our work gives us business through word of mouth, refferrals. and the more professional wee look the better. A guy that doesnt show up because his old truck broke down on his way to the job repeatedly isnt very professional.

I'll tell ya what though..If I didnt live in Michigan I wouldnt be driving a 2002 F150 every day. I cant even imagine driving my slicks in all the road salt in the winter. If I lived in Arizona I would never even consider owning a new truck. I dont care if my 2002 rusts away. Its not that cool. The thing is though I have owned all my classic ford trucks years before I bought the 2002. It was that brand loyalty of owning a classic ford that made me buy the new truck. So that really pisses me off that FOMOCO thinks that if you own an old truck you wont buy a new one.. Thats just not right. At least GM cares about the classic GM owners. They even stock old GM parts at the dealer. Kind of sad aint it.

man have to diagree on new trucks in my eyes are junks , only reason I have one is for my business,, I have older trucks that we put 50,000 to 60,000 on my 1956 per year, been coast to coast not once but 3 times,, driven in the snow, rain etc... run them hard no problems,,, NEW Trucks alwasy will have to go the dealer hooked to a darn computer sorry but I will take any one of my old trucks and not afraid to go anywheres,, the key is upkeep, if your goung to run salt, undercoat it, then keep it clean as far as stocking old parts in the dealership, Ford has plenty BUT are told by Ford not to really advertise it cause they want to push new vehicles and parts on us......

I dont know why you think a new truck will ALWAYS break down. the fact is the only ones that do are the ones that are neglected I will put my 06 against anything ya got for a lifetime. I am talking shit too but I can back it up. you have to put just as much dough into an old truck to get it to be as reliable as a new one. I haul a enclosed 15 foot trailor with a ton of heavy tools for work, and a bed full of installation tools. try doing that in a 1/8 ton bed on 45 year old parts. might make it 6 months before something falls off or breaks, plain and simple facts. my frame is stronger. I am safer in an accident and more very much more comfortable. Back on topic. ford doesnt need to be bashed on because they have the right to protect their product from others trying to make a buck off of their product. as stated before you can use their logo as long as a profit is niot being made, its been going on as long as I can remember

had 4 new ford trucks in my life, none held a stick to a slick or bump. you are at the mercy and schedule of the service dept. and it may sit for days until they get to it if its towed in.
strength of frame and axles? drove 67 f250 4x4 framed truck with 82 body from northern Mi. to Alaska with the rear springs completely collapsed & axle pressed against stops, no driving braking or handling problems even on the 10 /12% grades. no ps,and drum brakes and my wife was the driver.i drove the bus also heavily loaded.
bought that 67 for $100 1 week after buying the last new truck i ever will.
only reason for buying the 93 was work, i was doing flooring jobs out of my 70 tbird with suicide doors and 429 after my van died, but the other guys got pissed because i only did tile out of the car and they had trucks with payments and had to do rug.so i broke my vow and bought the 93.bad choice.
ran the 67 for a while doing wood and trail bombing until the 93 pissed me off enough to get rid of it then totally rebuilt brakes, front axle ,t-case and put non rusty 82 body on, and "new" 390 from 68 f350. too bad it was a Mi truck, their car cancer finally got the best of the frame. the remaining usable parts, engine and driveline were recycled and some is in storage, rest has been used on later trucks we built.

if someone gave me free or somehow i won a new truck first thing i would do is sell it and buy a couple nice slicks/bumps.

as for the rust part. I had a rust free 1980 F150 4x4. I loved that truck. had a 73 460 in it with a 3 inch lift. I bought it to be a nice bad ass driver primarily in the winter. Well I had repainted it, rust proofed and undercoated it. One winter of driving it still started to rust. And I washed it all the time. Argh! granted the sheet metal is thinner on a 80 than a slick but still. As long as I live in Michigan I will never drive a classic in the salt. That salt does more damage than you would think. give me all the snow and rain you want. but salt is what does the damage.

i have honestly never owned a bad ford truck. new or old and i have owned everything from f100's up to l9000's. if you buy used it's a combination of luck and detective work to get a good one, if you buy new it's a combination of luck and how well you take care of it.
i like the amenities of new trucks, but i like the styling of the older (61-72 and 92-96) trucks better. :2cents:

Yeah Ive driven my slicks in 20 degree weather before quite a few times but its only after its been dry for awhile and all the salt is off the road.. Does your heat work in your truck? the heaters in these old trucks can make the cab pretty toasty even without all the insulation. I acually got a kick out of using the heater in my truck. One of the rare things I would do with my summer cruiser. using one of its luxury items! lol

no chill at all (j/k i know we have it good). have lived most of that. lol my semi is plugged in for the weekend with a full tank of fuel with the requisit amount of power service. it'll start on monday, but it will take forever for it to warm up.
i don't think we've ever had -40, but i know we've been below zero for sure. compressed air hates that stuff. my truck doesn't even have heated mirrors. that's how prepared we are... bet my 68 f100 will start right now though.

just brought my 64 home with my 2006 F150, then went back and loaded up about 1500 lbs of vylinder heads, intake manifolds, body panels, tool boxes, and many many other FORD parts. didnt even put the springs on the bump stops, 21 cylinder heads and 2 FE intake manifolds alone, yes my 06 is stronger  that babys fully boxed. oh its the strength of the chassis, and body, not the axles, if anyone has done any Research on these trucks, youll come to find out a new Generation F 150 will have the same capacitys for hauling as your old 3/4 tons had, Stories are great, but facts speak for themselves.
as long as the schedule fits. I will be Hauling my 64 to slickstock behind my 2006 F150. since its a good 12 hour drive and I wont have enough time to make sure its road worthy before then, plus, who knows what would go wrong on the way and goodl uck finding a parts guy that could find me anything that goes bad with that old truck :D

I guess I am one of the Few truly loyal ford guys left. Cant blame them for protecting their products, its a good one
