So what's a wreck worth?

It would be worth $50.00 to just let it die a good death. hunting.gif praying.gif

after insulting you by calling your truck a wreck, they should pay you to take it.

I would pass on anything that bad unless there was something you specifically needed. Ne'er do well parts are hard to sell and it sounds like virtually nothing is excellent. JMO Hawkrod

Crusher.....

There are some small parts -- and some not so small parts that are valuable but the carcass is a hassle. Tell the wrecking company you will give them $50 for the engine and whatever parts you can extract, and then they can crush the rest.

Nice stuff to salvage:
-- core support if intact
-- inner/outer fenders if intact
-- dash cluster
-- wiring harness (yeah, like its intact...)
-- rear corners of cab if intact
-- a wide generous piece of dash around the radio if its original stock radio or unmolested radio delete
-- make sure its NOT power steering and if it is, then it immediately is worth $200 or so for the Bendix PS unit.
-- battery tray (65 and 66 are different and rare as h*ll) if intact
-- if it was automatic tranny, get the WHOLE single pedal (brake only) assembly under the dash.
-- if auto tranny, get the steering column and wheel -- for that matter get the steering column, regardless. I saw a 66 manual column go for over $100 on ebay.
-- 9" rear chunk has some value, reagrdless of ratio. It will be 28 spline axels, so no super desireable and not a good item to ship. But harvest it if you have time/energy.

There you have it -- all the stuff I paid good money for. Just never forget to realize that your time/sweat/blood has value too....

my view of these situations is this. if i can get it easy with a screw driver or pliers it's comming home with me. if it's shiney and i can get it with a screwdriver or pliers, it's comming home with me. trim, is there any good trim? interior or exterior. those are good parts too.

Sounds like they should pay you $50 or so for wasting your time (unless the items CDHerman listed are there, are good, and you want to take the time to remove). From your description, it's unlikely these items would be worth the time.

If you know anybody with a 1948-56 Ford truck, the rearend in your donor will bolt into the older trucks and gives them the versatile 9" rear.
If you drove a Ford, you wouldn't need a good wrench!

If they are willing for $100 to drop it off at your place, let you cannablize all the good stuff and then pick the carcass back up and take to the crusher, then that's not a bad deal. You can post up small stuff in the "For Sale" area, also take orders. There a lot of stuff like wiring clips, vent doors, heater box etc etc etc that folks would pay you for, plus shipping.

Would your neighbors/wife object?

Really depends on how you value your time and if you get a kick out of it. There is a 65 SWB with a 240 here in the KC area on Craigslist. Probably a similar deal. I considered parting it out and then I realized I have a real job that pays much better and while it might be fun at first, in then end it would become a hassle.

DOC, WHAT YARD IS THIS???

NO, I don't want to buy the truck out from under you... All I know is that all the Tucson area junkyards want an arm and a leg for everything they got. It sounds like you may have actually found a good one... which one is it?

The ones out by the power plant all think their old rusty, bent crap is gold, and only a few will let you scrounge around anymore... I remember paying $40 per swaybar, $20 per endlink, some years back when I put the swaybars on both ends of Aggie some years back... I was a bit griped at the price, my dad thought it was crazy too, but I had no choice if I wanted it, they all (like 5 of em) all said the same price.

Doc: What's a LNB? Sorry if I'm ignorant. I used to have good luck with the yards in Las Vegas when I lived there. I was into big Cherokees and Wagoneers back then, but you could spend all day Saturday "junking". Then tell them what you wanted and they would pull it...don't remember the prices being outrageous.
