Oddball Slicks in Argentina (dialup warning)

Post by Slick Fan »

So, in THIS THREAD, Z-man sorta casually posts up a link for an Argentinian car sales site, with this '65 in it.

That's pretty cool, but me being curious as to what other funky stuff there is down there, I went looking around the site. Where there's smoke, there's gotta be fire, right? :D

Well, I definitely found fire!

Only one shot of this truck...

'66 with a chrome grille...

Image

For a second, I thought this was the same truck. But it's got a painted grille, so I clicked the link; http://www.arcar.com.ar/AutosAntiguosDe ... qAuto=5458
(I wish these were larger pics!)

Check out that speedo. :D

'65 style gas pedal.

I assume the relief in the wheel well is original?

Is that a dana 44? (looks like the guy is a little unclear of how to route the diff breather tube)

With a Y-block under the hood??

That looks like a UNI tail gate and bed on the tan colored one.

This one's listed as a '63, the grille looks different than ours, though.

The bed & wheel wells look different than the red on in my previous post. It may have come from a different truck.

This one is advertised as a '67. :hm:

Hmmm...this one's advertised as a '67 too. Maybe they made an extra year down there & used the same grille? :dontknow:

This is the 3rd Slick advertised as a '67. I'll go ahead & assume that they made Slicks into '67. It's a project truck, so I'm not gonna post pics, just a link.
http://www.arcar.com.ar/AutosAntiguosDe ... qAuto=9476

They all seem to be shortbed F100's, so far. Maybe all the larger trucks got beat to death? This was listed as a '65.

Check out the clear front turn signals on this one. It was advertised as a '66, BTW.

Argentina!, So that's where all the good Uni tailgates are!
Actually someone posted some Argentinian Slicks on the old site with some research,
They were made alot longer down there.
The cab/box trucks used the Uni style for the bed.
Looks like they could have run Y blocks longer than here too.
Anybody up for a road trip?

they done some strange (to us) things down there.
Argentina is close to Brazil, yet here is the 67 Brazil F100 "rancheiro"

they used the Y blocks down there for a long time too.

wonder what a boatload of uni-style beds and gates would run?

what funny looking rear fenders.

What odd trucks in general... What a cool find... You know it's so strange that so much of the styling was SO different. If anything I would think that they would just be a bunch of leftover parts shiiped there after the fact... but no!
like I would think they could have started in 65, but looked like a 61, and go till 70, with 66 styling or something, but I guess not. just strange!
'63 with 390 & lots of juice. But never enough. Always want more.

Hey Slickfan,
I am glad yall enjoy the link and I have been wanting one of those beds for a long time and I really like the panel conversion. Awesome trucks down there and they did it a little different.

I'd wanna take the whole Slick as carry-on luggage!

Here's one advertised as a '64. Has clear turn signal lenses. Haven't seen an actual '64 grille yet, so who knows?

Image

Here's another one advertised as a '64...clear lenses.

Image
Image

And it had a '64 style column. :D

Image

Here's another one advertised as a '66...clear lenses, like the red '66 posted above. Anyone else noticing a pattern? :hm:
I'm guessing they used '65 grilles for two years & '66 grilles for two years. The first year for each grille, got clear lenses, the second got amber. So clear for '64 & '66...amber for "65 & '67.
Anybody with me on that? :D

Those beds are cool! I think that gold one is sectioned, looks a little squatty compared to the rest. The step sides are also different, pretty cool. Im supprised that there are so many pics of nice trucks down there, are these from adds or? Must be a bunch of survivors.

Sweet looking trucks. Marketing depts obviously worked different in South America. Those step beds and the short beds have better lines. Something that the Detroit guys never picked up on. Ford wasn't the only one company that got it wrong. Who cares about trucks when pony cars and muscle cars are profitable? Maybe the S.A. Ford plants got the leftovers and / or the old machining and stamping tools and then used them longer than the N.A. plants.

Found another stepside.

Image

Here's another bumpside, like the one I posted in the OTHER thread. No mention of the year, in the ad.
To me, this is the oddest thing...why would they put a Uni tailgate & lights on a bumpside?? :dontknow:
