Actually its an original reman part from LMC. 65-66 are a little narrower than 61-64. Fully functional though, not the easiest to fill but I thought it would look cool.Slick Fan wrote:That truck is really beautiful, congrats on all your hard work!!It's gotta feel SO good to be able to drive it now, huh?

Yeah, I remember trying to fill mine...I either got a funnel, or it got splashed on the inner fender.Hoofbeat Racer wrote:Actually its an original reman part from LMC. 65-66 are a little narrower than 61-64. BTW, the backside of the bag will leave a rub mark in the paint after a while, from the road vibrations. I don't know of a good remedy for that, but thought I'd make you aware.
Also, I forgot to say previously, I like the dual antenna look!

I do not have many pics from the construction phase, I know its a lame excuse considering my wife has her own photographer business
but here are some shots of what I started with, jwh F100 you were asking about seat and console, here they are
BEFORE

AFTER

At least with that shot, you can see things without the column.
The dual antenna thing was kind of cool too. Let me explain. First of all, I cannot take credit for the body work. I did the disassembly and total assembly but did not sand and paint the truck. The ONLY welding on the truck was to fill the fuel filler hole on the cab. The body was a peach, didn't strip one bolt when I pulled the front end apart. Anyway, when my buddy was sanding the cowl down, there was a matching antenna hole on the opposite side. We closely inspected them and they were both identical factory stamped holes. He asked me which one I wanted to fill, and of course I said neither! Dual antennas whipping in the wind is what I wanted. Good eye noticing that Slick Fan, and yes, they are functional too. There is a splitter going to the orig radio that also works.
The seats and and console came from my Ranger truck that I started the project with. I began the build with it and then came across a blue F250 in Washington a few years ago when we were on holidays. That was the body that I used so you'll notice inside the door is blue. However, the seat frames, mounts, and the console and dash were from the red truck. Red ranger also loaned its serial # for the finished truck.
I also did the pulse wiper thing with a 76 motor and switch, that ones a little tougher to notice. And both Hazard switches are functional - dash and column, they use seperate relays though. That was an accident, it just kind of happened that way.

Thanks, Very nice.
Are your upper door panels padded or just painted??
I would like to do that type of interior in my truck but I think my Ranger options for a straight axle truck are quite limited. Not even sure if Ford offered a Ranger in that era.

Upper door panels are the plastic inserts from Carpenter. They are available in white, black, and red. I ordered white and ended up painting them anyway. I used the same paint for the console. It is a vinyl spray dye made by SEMS prepped with an adhesion promoter called Sand Free made by the same people. I used it on the orig headliner and the visors, the stuff is amazing. Headliner pics are coming, it is still under construction.

It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..
Fantastic truck Mark! All the right touches adds up.
And don't take any grief about that throttle pedal. I have one in the glovebox just waiting for the carpet to be installed. And just for the horror struck fans ---maybe I'll even put the little one on the dimmer switch!!!!
Once again--GREAT JOB

Beautiful! Excellent craftsmanship! Looks darn good from Texas. Seeing results like this and the story behind it keeps us folks further back in line going.
Sweet color and style. You should definitely be proud of that!

I haven't been on the site for awhile, lots of travel for work etc. I'm sitting in a hotel room tonight and decided to see what's new on the slick site. WOW!! You should be proud, I love the color. I had a 69 close to that color. Thanks for making my night more interesting. Awesome job!! I also love the cragers, they're hard to beat.

Mark,
Sorry about taking so long to get to see your Slick in pix.
I know you understand tho'. I am just glad you remembered how to reach me &
gave me a heads up so I'd take time to see your done Slick and not miss seeing the result of your efforts & time & Money.
Well worth it I'll say.
This is what a sweet ride is all about. Rides are great when done "RIGHT"& I'd say your's is definitely done right. I'm greatful for your mention & God only knows I can always use the "Flowers", but truth is, in reality my friend, I was just one of your sounding boards. If I did help out, I am glad to have had any part in your dream & bringing it to reality. You, after all are the dreamer and builder of your Slick though.
I'd thank mamma & your new one both for letting you put a really great ride like that together. They really must be special people for sure. That's a special truck in many ways. I think I have to agree with I think Phil {HeavyHauler} who said Ford Truck, Ford Running gear, BB FoMoCo Power, great workmanship, great finished product, looks like perfect to me.. . . . . Well yeah, Me Too.
I also thank you for sharing and being able to share with us the results of y'alls efforts. You got all the reason in the world to bask in pride over the results of your dreams & efforts.
One last comment Dude, get over that "kid asking questions" thing Buddy, YOU the MAN and THAT'S a TRUCK that proves it.
I do Hate to be the one to tell tell ya this, but your "boyhood" is all through
Mark, drive on with a nasty Grin and the knowledge & confidence you can Vaporize your rear tires at will anytime you care to, and by the looks & what I know of the project, you certainly will do that in style.
Congrats Man Good Job- Well Done.

Thanks again for all the comments fellas. It makes me proud to be able to share my baby with you all
Pete, I knew you would get a kick out of seeing the "ol wreck" in the light of day.
I guess this truck makes me feel like a kid all over again. When I started it, I WAS on the sunny side of 30! LOL
Randy, I regret to inform everyone that there is no more news on how she drives. After the 1/2 mile jaunt to the car show, I have not touch the truck.
Even as I am typing this, I just walked in the door @ 2230h from working an 18hr day and haven't even washed my hands. LOL. Life as always is getting in the way and is preventing me from putting the finishing touches on. I did try to register it last week but my VIN is so old that it has been out of circ since 1981 (that is when our DMV goes back to on computer) so now I have to get another inspection done. I am not licenced to do out of province inspections. That was a bit of a shock.
On the flip side, with all the overtime I have been working in the bush, it is looking good for making it to SS08 with the family. I'll keep you posted with road test results and footage as they become available.
Thanks again

Mark what a nice truck thank you for sharing it with all of us.
When we finished the 61 and I got to take it out for its first drive, well you know how that feels, I had expectations of all kinds of problems but it drove like a new car. I could hardly believe it, it went straight as an arrow everything worked just like we wanted it to. I hope you get it registered soon and start to enjoy driving it around, you will have a hard time not smiling ear to ear as you cruise down the road.

Well done Mark...well done.
You can tell that you put a lot of hard work and love into that truck.
The only thing that I can see that is wrong...is that you are not driving it to my house to give me the keys. JK, even that would be wrong.
...what am I saying...DON"T GIVE THE KEYS TO ANY ONE!!!
I know money is tight some times, but now that you are done, don't sell it!! I have seen this hapen way to many times, even on this forum.
I know what you are saying about life. I am in the same boat. I wrecked my 63 in the fall of 1999 and it still sits in my garage waiting to be made new again!
You are an insperation to me now...I look forward to shaking your hand at SS...see you there!
