I have been working on the uni quite a little lately. Replacing the np 435 and dana 21 combo with an aod and borg warner 1356 combo. I made me a new patch for the floor where someone had torched a big hole for the shifters. I took my plasma cutter and straightened the hole up for easier fitment and welding. I sand blasted the wagon wheels and painted them and got a little brave with the pinstriping tool. I have been wanting to swap in the spare 9 inch rear axle, so I tore it completely apart. I built me some new spring perches and painted it all up. 9 inch is installed, wheels and new tires are mounted, aod was finished up yesterday and today we went through the transfer case. Hopefully next weekend we can get it installed. Have some pics if I can remember how. Chris

I'm no painter by no means, but I figure I can spend a little money and learn. When it comes to the bodywork, if I don't feel comfortable, I guess I'll have to have someone else do it. I just like to be able to say that I did it myself. I spend alot of time in the computer late at night doing research. I guess I'm like a sponge, I absorb it, or at least try. I really enjoy this truck and hobby. As soon as I get it going though, I have to get back on the mud truck and get it finished. My son just turned 6 last Thursday, and before he was diagnosed with his hip disease, he had to have a mud truck. He will hopefully get out of his casts next summer so we will have to go to the mud bogs in his "mud truck". There is just not enough time and money to do both at the same time. Chris

Johnny, thanks for the kind thoughts. It was really diffucult for my wife and I. He was diagnosed with perthes disease. No one anywhere close to here has heard of it in small town america. We were sent to a childrens orthopedic surgeon in a bigger town about and hour away, and the doctor didn't feel comfortable treating him, so he sent us to OU Medical Center in OKC. The doctor we saw there pretty much told us there was nothing that could be done and to just wait it out for a couple of years and the body would naturally help itself. So the doctor and I had to have a talk. I told the doctor that I would not set back and see how his outcome would be, that I was going to whatever I possibly could do to help his outcome be a positive one. I told him that I would rather try and it not work than to sit back and do nothing. I just wouldn't be able to look at my son and say to him "I wish I would have done something more for you". My wife and I got on the computer and researched it and was referred to the Shriner's Hospital in St.Louis, MO. We have made 4 trips so far, but we feel like we are getting the help he needs for a more positive outcome. Hopefully by the end of next summer he will be over it. It's been really tough to see him not being able to walk, he has been helping me work on things since he was big enough to hold a wrench. He has a really good attitude and sense of humor with all of it though. We feel this is the reason, to get him through this little curve ball.
