I could go POSTAL!!!!!

Post by OLYELLER »

When I filed for a new title after my grandfather passed. The DMV told me they could mail the original title back to me after the state got it. I said "cool", that would be awesome to have the title mailed back to me to keep for sentimental reasons. I've been waiting for about 2 months now. I got a letter from the post office saying I had a piece of mail damaged in transit. When I got the title in the mail it was ripped open with the corner of the envelope missing. I opened it and of course it was the original title, but half of it was missing. Now I have half of the original title and I'm pretty sure there is nothing I can do about it. :cussing: Just thought I'd vent to someone that would understand grrsign.gif hunting.gif cuss.gif

Hey OLYELLER.

I understand.

I took the original title to my 65 F-100 down to the court house to get it put in my name.

When they were through, the clerk refused to return it, she said they had to destroy it.

It was the title my Uncle got when the truck was new.

It was the second time in my life someone had to get officers after me.

I was bristling and almost went to jail, I was 20 and a year or 2 years old.

Winr, that's how Utah works too. Whenever you re-title a vehicle in your name, they always keep the old one...that's how it's been as long as I've been of car buying age. :D Same thing with your old driver's license.

If you want to keep a title for the cool factor, stop by a Kinko's on the way & have them make a color copy of both sides. That way you can have yer beer & pretzles too.

OlYeller, are you saying that the DMV mailed you an original title? As in that title looks much older than a current title, or did they mail you a current style title in the original owner's (your grandpa) name? :hm:
I would assume that they could only get you a current style title, since they would have long ago chucked the old style titles. If that's the case, just tell 'em to mail you another one. :D

I am wondering if a person could take the original one and xerox it. You could either use old paper or dip it in tea or something. The is something like tea that makes it look old. After its dried fold it a few times and then take the copy down . You can proceed to say I don't have the original but gramps always made copies of everything and this is all I could find. When I got my tags when I got it running I had lost the title. I just applied and got a new one. Then after about 6 months I found the other one. The other one was torn and such so I cut it up to be safe. .

they did mail me back the original title in my granpas name. the old style that is, not the new one. I was hoping to frame it with his personal plates. i am still going to but now it is not the whole title. I was excited when they said i could get it back. Oh well, at least i got something back at all.

When I went and licensed my 66 which was the orig arkansas green title the lady at the lic bureau asked me if I wanted my orig title mailed back to me for the price of a stamp.....said sure if ya'll do that...seems that this is becoming a normal request . Thankfully mine came back in one piece...just had void stamped on it in several places.
