Need to ask some questions on how to tackle paint and body.
Do I install all body panels,set gaps, so on so forth then do the filling,sanding,priming get it straight then disassemle again and tackle sanding door jambs,inside of cab,under hood(did I forget a spot?)then reassemble and finish paint while masking what I dont want painted

Any help or direction on who to talk to or forums to visit would be great.

You could also get a Ron Covel DVD, Eastwood Co. sells them. Ron Covel writes a Bodywork column in Street Rodder Car Craft & Hot Rod frequently run a "How to paint your car" article with some good basics, you should be able to get a back issue on their web site.

As long as the sheet metal has never had issues you should be good to go.

At one time did you see this truck together? If so how did it fit (just in case you bought it apart) There is really not a bunch of adjustment except for doors. On my truck the one side door was a poor fit from factory. If you are looking for perfection the doors are the biggie they need to be aligned properly before fenders go on.

Is the truck being painted in pieces? With further info I can help you out.

if your panels are in good shape as far as the body lines and edges where they meet up you shouldnt have a problem with alignment on final assembly.

To be safe I would get everything lined up and make sure it all fits, and then pull it off and spray the jams, engine bay, etc. Then get everything back on and lined up.

I would paint the body panels assembled because otherwise you can end up with a mismatch in the color, especially so with metallic and pearl basecoats.

haha. I tried. I just found the site today. I joined the ford enthusiasts forums for info but they aren't too fond of my motor swap ideas there.

Ya they are asswipes over there. A saying we have on fordification is that FTE sucks. Macdave if ya needing more info and want a different site for more opinion go to fordification just like here you cant find a better bunch of guys. freezerburn get the mech work all done first then follow the instructions Macdave gave ya.

A little tip I have found very useful. When you get all the panels fitting where you want them, drill a 1/8" hole through the attachment point or hinge. After the parts have been removed to be painted, assemble the parts close and then use a 1/8" drill or rod in the previously drilled holes and the pieces are right back where you started. Helps prevent nicking or scratching the fresh paint.

A friend of mine built a magazine featured 54 Panel Truck. He painted and clear-coated each part as it was ready to be installed. Because it was a metallic silver/green, there was no way all the panels would match exactly. When complete, he rolled the truck into the paint booth and painted the entire outside of the truck.

If you need to paint the body panels off the truck just make sure they are in the same position they would be on the truck. The doors and fenders should be upright and not laying down, the hood should be laying flat as it does on the truck if you paint the parts this way you shouldn't have that much problem with color match and much cleaner looking jambs. A friend of mine used to do restorations in a one car garage and would paint a couple panels at a time this way till he had the entire vehicle done then put it together. spray gun technique and consistency is important but it can be done this way and it will look good.
