Ice Storm
Ice Storm
Hope not many of you are in the ice storm area. Southern Indiana was hit hard and almost all of Kentucky is under emergency. Not much damage here ,just a lot of trees down and at present running the computer by generator. May be days before Power is on. My slick is buried undr ice and snow and will stay that way till it warms up.

I saw yesterday that they were saying it might be two weeks for some people to get power restored from that storm. That sucks.

It has been bad in Ark. There are hundreds of elec trucks and crews working around the clock. we are lucky and got elec last night. My son is without water or power but drove over for a bath. He had to wait for over 2 hours to be able to get fuel for his vehicle. I was in the chainsaw shop and people from eastern ark drove several miles to get chainsaws. some of the towns have a curfew because soooo many power lines are down and the towns look like a war zone. one of my horseshoer customers froze to death. He went out to listen to the radio in his truck. He was a large man and when he step out of the truck he fell and went partly under the truck The fall knocked him out and then he couldnt get out. They found him after several hours but he died about three hours after they found him. I felt soo sorry for him and his family. Don

I hope you all get thru it well. I don't much care for that sort of weather. I Have been through several when
I was trucking the 48. . . . It's bad news and I try to avoid it at all costs now. O'course that doesn't help anyoneout now.
So for what it's worth you're all in my thoughts & prayers.
It's hell dodging falling things while in a "18 wheel Petercar" on frozen pavement. BUT... Out moving around on foot
somehow seems suicidal and Not For Me. Please be careful all.
Remember to watch fo falling objects too, like trees & powerlines, Heads Up Folks. . .

snowed all day yesterday and last night.probably 10". deep enough to make pig tracks from the rear end.
power went out 8am this morning was back on 1pm.
2 weeks is a long time in the winter if you are not used to or prepared for it.

obel Prize winner AlGore says man made global warming is just a day or two away.
Now aint that the truth.....all caused by a gas that is less than .01 percent of the atmosphere...Must be a nasty little bugger to cause all that havoc.
I will contribute 5 bucks to a kitty to launch good ol Al into space on the first Mars mission....
Hope everyone is safe in the ice storms as i do not miss it one bit....

I can tell you it was bad...I left the house Tuesday morning about 4:30 am to go to our yard 30 min away...got there an hour later...took over an hour to get all the ice off my big truck...got rolling about 7:00...was gelled up by 7:30(dont you just love low sulfur diesel)rolling again about 10:00 then it took me till 6:30 PM to get 220 miles over to Joplin(I was supposed to make Tulsa Ok...I didnt )going across US 60 and I 44. Couldnt even begin to count the number of cars and trucks in the ditches between the two places. Power, phone and cable have all been off at my place since Tuesday.

Things are finally getting back to normal around here, got power back late friday but then the phone went dead so couldnt get online til today. Im sure glad i bought a generator after losing power during the wind from hurricane ike . Kentucky still has a lot of homes without electricicity and may be a week or more yet . Got all the limbs cleaned up form my driveway but the rest will wait till the snow and ice are gone. Not a good idea to be slipping and sliding around with a running chainsaw in your hands.

I would imagine that to be quite a fiasco in the southern states where not many would have a clue about driving on ice.
And I have walked on ice for half my life, and still slipped stepping out a a vehicle , and ended up under a vehicle like that guy Don described. Dang lucky never to have knocked myself out yet, just hurt pride. Always seems to happen right in front of some pretty young thing so she can laugh her arse off.

It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..
You've been hit with the frying pan so often JC I can't imaging actually hurting anything from a fall.Johnny Canuck wrote: Dang lucky never to have knocked myself out yet, just hurt pride. Always seems to happen right in front of some pretty young thing so she can laugh her arse off.

you might think they look goofy but then how do you look on your back on the ice?
if you are "frugal" some shop light chain can be used to make a set of shoe chains.

boy do I know about running the computer by generator. power went out last mon. night about midnight,(jan. 26) and finally came back on sunday night about 8 PM.(feb. 1) made for a long week.not many of us on my line and have been told by the power company that we are a low priority, hence the reason I bought a generator. sitting here tonight watching it snow more, about 2 inches in the last hour and a half, but still have power. hope everyone is riding the storms with a positive outlook, Anthony
