Slick 60's

doug, are those bumper brackets factory, or the repops? i have a sport bumper and am thinking about using it.

This looks really good. I met you & your son and saw your trucks at the Western Nationals this year. Is your truck still at stock ride height or are you lowering it some? Will your tank hang low enough to be visible under the truck when looking from a side view?
I look forward to seeing more pics as you finish it up.

I am not planning to lower this truck...the visibility of the tank is an issue. I won't know how much you can see it until I put the bed back on. I painted the tank with a bedliner material to protect it and to make less noticeable. My next step is to finish plumbing it and then take it to the gas station to see how well it fills.

My filler comes out on the passenger side. The tank came from a mid 90's SUV.....

I'm going to plumb it up behind the tail light.

fire truck...keep us informed on that one. If you have any pics of the progress, I would sure like to see them. I thought about doing that myself, but I am not a good enough metal or body man to pull that one off.

I would have tried the tail light fill but I bought a mustang tank. I would like to see how it turns out for future slicks

Did you see the pic of your son's '56 in the Jan. 2010 issue of Classic Trucks magazine? It's included in photos from the F100 Western Nats. Thought you might wanna know if you didn't already....

Thanks again Randy...I found it at a local Borders...it is the Custom Classic Truck magazine I have a hard time finding. My son was really pumped about his truck being in a magazine.

Update...the tank filled fine and I had no surge of fuel out the filler cap. Very happy. Went to put on the bed back on and found that the rear sheet metal support underneath the bed was resting on top of the cross member. Dang it! It will not let the bed set all the way down on the frame. Back to the drawing board.

I put the Mustang tank in my 72 and relocated the crossmember to the rear of the frame. If you put the crossmember in upside-down, the bed fits. Not sure if it's the same on your truck but something you may want to look into.

I belive Uncle Skip had to flip his rear crossmember too. It is on the tech page of this website under mustang gas tank.

Guys I finally figured out which tank I used...I had a pile.

It's a 90-98 Isuzu Rodeo/Honda Passport fuel tank.

I was in a pinch when I did it on the crew, so I didn't take time to get pics. I'll be doing the same to the 67 I just got soon. I'll do a write up them.

BTW this tank has a lp pump in the tank that can be wired up and used with a carb. My factory pump pull the fuel through it.

Bobby and jercasche...I checked out the cross member last night and I did flip it upside down so it is concaved on the top. It is enough of a concave on this cross member to keep from interfering with the that support flange on the bottom of the bed.



I think I am going to have to drain the tank, drop it and cut the welds I put in to hold the cross member and move it back a couple of inches...WHAT A PIA!

I guess these are the things you have to do when redesigning these modification on these trucks.
