No one stepped up ---here's the only pics I have of gates. The maroon one is a popular custom style

I like the last one, looks great and clean. I plan to skin mine like this. prost66, did you buy the skin from somewhere or make your own? My 66 F100 of course is different but I want to keep my indention but just get rid of the FORD stamped in it and not as deep. I want it to match the edge of the tailgate and have the depth of the body line on the side of the bed if that makes any sense. Pretty much get rid of the FORD stamped logo and not as deep. Grant Kustoms makes a clean skin for these trucks but not sure if it has the indention or if it's just completely flat.
If you want to fill the tailgate on a 64-66 styleside the best place to find the piece is front a bed side on the same truck. Start at the back because you will need to finish the roll from the rear portion on forward for a smooth transition.

No I just want to get rid of the stamped lettering on it and not make that part where it's stamped so deep. I still want a functional tailgate with the handle on the inside.
Yes almost but do you see the flat spots on the outside of the tailgate they are just over an inch wide I guess? Well I want that flat spot to go all the way across and cover up the handle (relocate it to the inside). That way it matches the same indention depth as the side of the bed. Does that make sense?

That is the result you will get with what I described. I had one of these panels I cut from a 64 lwb parts truck, it was going into the tailgate on my 66 swb. I never got it welded in though.
I can see if the guy who bought the truck still has the panel. I had finished the roll on it, needed about 1/8 more trimmed off of it before it was ready to weld in.
It matches the inch or so wide sections on the ends perfectly in curve and the roll at the top & bottom makes for a nice transition to the top & bottom boxed sections.
Others have used a 67-72 handle moved to the inside, don't remember who though. It's not that difficult to do because the linkage is just wires so reversing them on the handle is fairly easy. Trickiest part of the handle is cutting & welding in the mounting flange for it. You can also use the hidden latch systems that some of the fat fender parts places sell.

It is said the new Uni tailgates are thinner, from what I understand they are stout enough though. There 3 guys at a Slick Stock sitting on one and it held up, considering the physique of the average slick owner that's a pretty tough tailgate.

The curves and shapes in the tailgate are what strengthen it. My 46 Chrysler 3 window coupe is a HUGE car and you can fit an 8 foot john boat in the trunk it's that big but it weighs less than a Toyota car. The sheet metal on it is as thin as a soda can but there is not a single flat peice of sheet metal on the car which gives it it's rigidity.
