well i am getting real tired of my 8 year old cameras appetite for batterys, think i have spent more in AA batterys since slickstock than the cost of a new camera.

not looking for anything fancy or spendy , just something that i can take along in my travels that gets more than 25 pics to 4 batterys.
any recommendations?

Brian on batteries we use th energizer e lithium batteries and have lasted the longest like in months instead of the everyday run of the mill batteries, Now I bought a new Kodak Z1285 camera with 12 pixels built in focus on the zoom @ 5 times and love it , just be sure you get a warranty against anything might do to it I had a Kodak with 3.2 for 5 years still works good but for what we are trying to now had to go to the 12 pixle the new camera with tax was like 195.95 from office max

Dude, with ANY digital camera, they're gonna eat batteries. Get rechargeables.

Also, you can't go wrong with a Canon Powershot.

Brian, Before buying a camera get a card reader.. They are cheap and will save a ton of battery life.. They are about $20 or less..

Yeah, I didn't even think about that, are you plugging up your camera to get the pics off? Cause that'll run them down since the camera has to be on.

My laptop has a build in SD card reader, so I just pop the card in there and pull the pics off.

yes i have to plug into the puter to unload. older the camera gets, less life i have gotten out of the batterys.
i know i can get 10x the camera now for 1/3 the price i paid for this one so im not opposed to spending $100 or a bit more on a new one.

tried the lithium,my thoughts on that were nice word for extra $ but not worth the minor extra time.

did rechargeables too, can only recharge so many times before they are done.

card reader sounds like it might be the thing, not sure where it plugs in to the camera?

or do you take the little card out of the camera and put it in the reader?

cant think of any more dumb questions right now.

You take the card out of the camera, put it in the reader, then the reader plugs into computer.

I found out recently, if recharged batteries sit too long, they start to lose life. Like you shouldn't charge them until you need them

I've had my Energizer rechargeables a couple years now, but I think they're starting to die out on me.

Agreed and agreed.
I have an el cheapo Canon for the junkyard and a fancy Canon for attempts at being artistic. Both are great and I have rechargeables for both.

Don't focus on the megapixels to choose the camera. Most cameras have a high enough resolution for poster sized pictures. Realistically, most of us will never need a picture that big. Megapixels are a great way for the companies to separate your cash from your wallet. For zoom, go with optical over digital. I'm not sure exactly what your travels will entail, but I imagine just about anything will do what you need.

I have 3 Canon Cameras. One is a SLR digital and the other 2 are point and shoot cameras. All 3 use the Li-ion batteries and they are excellent. The batteries usally cost about about $35-$50 each but you only need one spare. My Canon's with this battery in it are usually good for 2-300 pics or more before recharging. When we go on vacation we will usually shoot about 5-600 pics between 2 cameras that we take and the batteries will usually only need to be charged once. My batteries for the SLR are about 6 years old and a couple of them now won't last for more than about a 1 1/2 -2 days, one is still good for 4-5days on vacation, so they hold up well.

Hey Brian if you get a camera and Kodak asks you for EASY SHARE Stay away from it,, it has a bad virus in their system that when we got our new camera it asked for enrollment,, well that was 3 weeks ago, this past Sat Computer took a crash,, Well the virus was hidden in Kodak's Easy Share, took the guy 4 hours to find it and 240.00 later to get rid of the bug,, he said what it was doing was since I signed up but not signed in that the bastard virus got mad then found its way to my computer and boom started wiping out my screen saver then home page till it almost stopped dead till I shut it off so anyway just be careful ,, the puter genius said he seen it more than once on Kodak easy share

One trick I have used with our digital camera's that has worked really well, is when I am not using the camera, I flip one battery the wrong way. Most electronics even though the button is switched to off, they still pull a draw. Flipping the battery obviously makes it so the camera can't pull a draw. I found by flipping one battery, for the time the camera is not being used has extended our battery life considerably.
