Lazer Cut Slicks Update #4

Here is the longbed Slick I got from Parker Iron Works that I painted to look like Richard Schultz truck. Rich did all the drawings for us so they could be used to make our cutouts.
Now, I have sent an Email to Jeff at Parker Iron Works about a couple of changes I would like to make to the cutouts that I feel will look better.
The areas along the body line on the hood, door, and bed, and the front fender and rear quarter panel that are cut out, I suggested he just cut body lines along there and leave the rest intact. Also, he cuts the wheels out to look like 5 spoke Mag wheels. I used round stickers to cover them up, and painted the small ones silver with a silver sharpie pen. I told Jeff I think it would look better if he just cut 2 circles out, one where the tire meets the rim, and a smaller one to be a hubcap. Obviously he would have to leave some material in a couple of places for it to hold together,
but it could be painted out. So......What do you all think? Do you like my idea for the changes, or the other way like in the pics? Let me hear from you. TR

Just to remind you all of the how these look without any detailing. This one is a Shortbed Styleside that I saw at Pate back in April. Notice the wheel treatment as compared to the look on the previous post. TR

As far as which design and your suggestions: I trust your judgment. I'm just stoked that you're putting this deal together!

Anyone else want to get an order in for one of these this go round? I have enough to send in, but if any of you have been kicking around getting a Slick Cutout, now is the time. I like your suggestion on just cutting body lines for the fender and the quarter panel....but think it would be hard to do for the side trim. I think the trim cut out down the body is fine.

I kinda like the 5 spoke mags, but think it would look fine with just circles cut for the wheel and tire...I have smoothies on my '66, so it would look more like my truck that way.

Either way, I think they're pretty cool and I'm eagerly waiting to get mine.

I had a friend send me a lazer cut 56 F 100 about ten years ago. I am sure that Mel remembers Dave well. You use the piece he cut it out of as a base.

That is a cool deal there Michelle. Looks like he etched in all the body lines on the truck. Flash on the camera makes it kind of hard to see them, but a neat deal. These cutouts are between 16 inches long for the shortbed trucks, to close to 20 inches long for a crewcab truck. Maybe even longer if the crewcab has a long bed. I have this longbed here and with the bumpers on it, it is 18.5 inches long. Guess I need to hold it and have my wife take a picture to give folks a better idea of the size these are. TR

I got this pic from Chris, (PFM) in Texas when we ordered these a couple months ago. My longbed is at the top of the page, and these are what he ordered. He has a 64 short styleside and a Crewcab short styleside. I don't know if he has painted them yet, but you guys and gals that are ordering the short styleside trucks can get an idea about how they look bare. TR

possible cutting pattern
lost the custom cab cut outs & just went with the body line break
also lost the big voids in fender and bed

any thoughts?

Rich, this is exactly what I was going for when I was talking to Jeff about the changes I wanted to make in the cutouts. The windshield deal and the wheels too. He said he could do it and I am going to Email the picture to him so he can better see what I am talking about.
The wheel treatment you came up with looks great, and after talking to him about the windshield he said he could do that, but the windshield line would be about an eighth of an inch thick, but would cut it out like the vent and door glass. I told him I think it would look better. He said it would be hard to make it any thinner. However, if any of you have a die grinder or dremel tool at home and want to grind on it to make it thinner
that will be up to you. Right now I am waiting on 3 more orders to come in on my "last call" post, so once they are here, I'll be sending the order in. Thanks to all who ordered trucks, and I think you will be very pleasantly surprised when they come to you. And to those who still are thinking about it, we will be able to order more, so let me know later on if you would like some of these. I am hoping once folks see these they will be more inclined to want some and we can do another order. Maybe even more next time. TR

Yeah, I really like it, too. The drawing looks great if he could make the cut outs like that.

Sent a message off to Jeff at Parker Iron Works for the Slick order and the changes Rich and I made to the design. We have about a half dozen different designs in the order with the Short Stylesides and Short Flaresides being the most popular, and the Short Unis a close second. I should be able to report some more "news" on this very soon.

As far as the cutouts go you might consider having him just etch the lines in rather than completely cut the sections out. I used to program/operate/maintain a Mazak NTX 4800. The company owner used to regularly have me make ID tags for his dogs. This drove the company manager up the wall because we weren't getting paid for the Laser time. I would tell him every time that Peter (the owner) owned the machine and if he told me to make something I did it.

The order has been in Jeff's hands for a couple of weeks and counting. I am sorry it took so long to turn it in, but I was trying to get as many orders as I could included in the first bunch. I turned in orders for 28 trucks, and of those, 14 were split evenly with 7 short flaresides and 7 short unibody trucks. The rest of them varied a lot from longbed and shortbed stylesides to a longbed lowered uni, a custom long flatbed, a lowered wrongbed, and several others. I hope they will be done by Christmas, but don't know. I will make an announcement on here (Truck Talk) when they come in. Thanks to all who ordered and for those who might want some of these at a later date, just let me know and we can put an order together. TR
