forward tilt bonnet( hood)
here is the plan for my forward tilting bonnet (hood), you will need a metric tape measure and a six pack!, the only stipulation on using these plans, is if you refine anything! or come up with a better idea!, YOU have to share it with us!!!
there`s photo`s of my truck in my album, with the parts shown, any questions just ask!

Thanks for posting this Alan.
I have a similar setup I snatched from Buick at the yard but think I like yours better. The way yours stiffens the hood is very cool.
I don't see the stop for the lower pivot point though.
Am I missing something?

Mike, you most certainly can have a hard copy!, be on it`s way by weeks end!.
Greg, No at the moment I rest the bonnet on the over-riders, if you have a idea tell me!.
Jerry, it is tucked up in the back stiffener and comes out down the left hand side support, you can see it zip tied to it!, I cant do arrows!
Gerry, that was one of the best lessons learnt!, when we converted to metric, don't convert!, use the measurements stated, having said that your right! 25mm is 1", get yourself a metric tape!, Obama might bring it in!!

that is Nice.....
it just struck me though, I dont think the institute for Highway safety or whatever the hell it is called would like it too much..... In a horrible enough crash, the bars that bolt to the rear of the hood could potentially become skewers.....
My best guess says that is highly unlikely, and in such an event, you would probably have worse things to worry about....

Mike, as you can tell!, it`s really a work in progress and it was only meant to be a prototype to see if it would work!, but when it came to put all the front end in, I painted it to use as a temporary measure. So at the moment I rest the bonnet on the over riders. the next version will get rid of the eye-bolts on the top of the swinging frame and replace it with a plain old hole through the square tube with a cotter bolt and spring pin, that way you can slip the bolt out and the bonnet will come off!. Also the mounting brackets are better if they are the same hand!, that way you can slide the swinging frame off the core support.
BA, what do they make of gun rack`s and no head restraints?, but point taken!

oh I know, man.. there's lots of dangerous crap out there, and the steering columns become harpoons too.....
I just happened to think of it, and It seems like it wouldnt take that much of a crash to have the hood get screwed up... Likely less of a crash than the steering column issue...
Perhaps the column is not so much of an issue in a "truck" because there is enough frame in front of the steering box, but my dad knew a guy that crashed an old Bread truck (steering box right behind bumper) that got impaled by the column, straight thru the seat....
but I digress, that's somewhat off topic....

Gary (TR) this is the thread I was talking about.
Re: forward tilt bonnet( hood)
As to the "skewers", one could easily add a cross brace to somewhat alleviate any concerns; as mentioned, a bigger concern to me would be that rigid steering shaft, which already has a close proximity to some of my cherished body parts! With your permission, Macca, I would like to start adapting your design for use on a vehicle favored by one of your countrymen known for his bright red tabletop Merc and it's cargo!
