Slick 60's

I bought a NOS voltage regulator of e-bay.
it is for a 71 but the numbers are the same.
It buzzes and the alt light comes on.
How can I check this regulator.

I had the same problem and I found out it was grounding out inside and hade to be rebuilt hope this is note the case for you $$$

buzzing is indicative of the points inside malfunctioning.
probably sounds like an electric train transformer?

if it has a removable cover i would look inside.


i can look up the test on the manual later but my guess is its 40 years old and may have gotten moisture in it or stored in a humid place.could have bounced off a shelf, those things are sensitive to a lot of things.

much as i like to keep original parts the electronic voltage regulators used on the mid 70s up are an upgrade.

My orignal 65 seemed to be working fine, so I kept it for years, even after my restoration.

Then one time, out of the blue, my battery overcharged and blew acid all over my restored front clip......

I agree with Brian -- there are some things that are improvements that should be accepted -- solid state regulators would be on that list.....

What about the regulator from Dennis Carpenters?

I doubt that the regulator from Dennis Carpenter is better than a USA made one from any old parts place...

The DC unit is likely a good USA unit as well. I do not believe that the mechanical unit is being reproduced, and even if it is, I would not use one....
