Hagerty question
when putting in the value of your truck do they need a written appraisal at the time of signing up or does that come after you are a policy holder?

When I added my Mustang I had my local home/daily driver insurance agent through Mutual of Enumclaw set up my Haggarty account. He wanted a picture of the car and that was all it took. I set the car up at 10K which is probably less than the value by a long shot but I only paid $3600 years ago so if I crash and get 10K i'll be good and the price of the policy is dependent upon how much value you set it at. There were no appraisals no questions asked.
They are car people and they know the values of these vehicles, if you want 80K insurance on a 66 F100 they will be out to take a look long before they agree. If it's relatively what the truck is worth and you have a good picture and go through your local agent I don't think you will have any issues.

You don't have to go through a local agent. I did mine online without a hitch. You do not need an appraisal. The insured value of the vehicle is "agreed value". You tell them what you want to insure it for and, in my case, they agree. I've never heard of anyone being challenged. As Cory said, they might balk at an absurd price, but they primarily want to see photos of your truck. I valued two of my licensed and registered trucks at $11,500 each and the third for $5,000. I have all of my "project" vehicles valued at $5,000 each.
You can also get insurance on your tools (think $5,000 is the max and your spare parts).
FWYW: I have found them to be extremely easy to work with and their rates are great.

If you understand what you’re doing, you’re not learning anything.

Like the others said... "agreed value." I told them I saw some trucks at a show and what they were selling for and what I believed it would take to replace it, then I shot $5,000 higher just for grins and she said, ok, send us some pictures. Easy peasy.
Oh and you can insure it while its still a project. Mine's not even finished... I mean, I know they never really are ever finished, but I still need to re-cover the seat, disc brakes, aluminum trim, little odds and ends stuff before it'll really be close to done.
