the aod will bolt to a 6cyl but remember that 302 and 6 cyl have a different balance and require different flexplates

Can't you use your existing flexplate? Or is the AOD a specific type?

This might be a better video if using a carb and Lokar cable.

I have a free for the shipping used flex plate for a 300 if you want it. The bolts are different though- those I used for my C4 swap. They are shorter than manual as far as I can recall.
I would not recomend an automatic tranny behind a 240, but a 300 should be better.
I nabed a free C4 so I used that -- was scared of the TV honestly...

i ran an aod behind a 300 years ago and was less than impressed with the lack of power in od. make sure you have at least a 373 or 411 gear or it will be a sloutch in overdrive which means it will go in and out of od all the time

I also have a C-4 that has been rebuilt but it has the small bell and I wil need a flex plate and TC no matter what trans I use, I like the C-4 but thought the AOD might help a little on mileage...........Kid

The lokar tv cable is super simple to install and adjust...just some patience. Depending on your carb though you may need one of their brackets along with the cable.

I would go AOD Darrell.
If you are unimpressed with the power then upgrade the intake & exhaust - driven properly those 2 mods will improve the mileage even more too along with more power.
I'd want to be around 3:56 or 3:70 for final drive with the OD in one of these trucks. I have one of those ratios in the 64 (don't remember which) - I will likely keep the rear gears I have.

What all do you have to do to put an AOD behind an older model 302? What all do you need?

Depends on how "vintage" the engine, pre 82 have a different balance in the flywheel/flexplate - you will need the right one. I am not 100% sure on the converter bolt patterns - if they would be different. Other than that it would be a normal AOD swap.
This a fairly common swap on early Mustangs (that and T-5s).
Somebody probably has a bolt in Kit that would have a flexplate. You could also (if need be) have your current flexplate drilled for the AOD converter I'd think.

I have a 370 final gear behind the aod with a stock efi 302. It runs great on the low-end and in overdrive @ 70 mph I'm turning right at 2100 rpm's. It's great for a driver 20mpg on the interstate!
Not to thread jack but greg how did you adapt the clutch with the t-5?

I don't have the clutch hooked up yet but will be going hydraulic. Details in my build thread (link in my signature).
