Found a Slick and need some advice

Post by jglee »

Hey folks. I'm currently restoring a '66 and got a lead on this '65:

Image

It's got a 6 cylinder and seems to be pretty solid except for floor pans, the bed, and tailgate. It was supposedly running and actually backed in to where it is parked now. Motor didn't seem to be seized. Interior is pretty much gone. The hood is not bowed like it looks in the picture. The rake (which we were using to check for snakes) is caught at the hinges but it closes. Cab corners seemed pretty solid although I didn't crawl under it. I'm sure y'all get the picture.

I can buy it but the problem is I just want to get a few miscellaneous parts (trim, spare tire rack, etc. Nothing mechanical) off it but don't need the truck. But I hate to see it rot into the ground 'cause I think overall it's pretty solid. I know it's really subjective but what do y'all think it might be worth if I decided to get rid of it either in whole or parted out? It's in north Alabama.

Here's the data plate:

I would sure appreciate any advice or thoughts.

Buy it!!! You will be surprised what you will use off of it and it makes a good reference when you are assembling your project back together. :2cents:

can't tell much from here, but the grille, bumper, side trim, windshield trim and headlight doors all look pretty good. if you could get it for 5 bills or less i would jump.

Thanks, guys. I appreciate your help. I'll see what I can get it for. Any advice on how to break the news to your wife?

Sorry, we only give truck advice, not wife advice. You're on your own there :-)

Say "I bought a truck", then enjoy 10 days of peace and quiet.

If restoring a ford was easy, chevy guys could do it.

On telling the wife..

It is easier to ask forgivness than permission. butbut.gif With that said you have to live with her or get 10 days of peace and quiet as Johnny said.
