Parting out a '62 uni, got a few questions.

Post by 69supercj »

I know that the doors are uni specific but these have the usual rust along the bottom, are they worth saving? And what about the inner front fenders, I'm using the passenger side for myself but the drivers side is pretty good other then a tad but of rust at the rear where the bracket is, just below the hood hinge area. And the bed tubs are decent, not banged up too awful bad. Keep or crush? Thanks for any and all help!!

If you have the room, keep them

Personally I would never toss a uni door. If you absolutely have to get rid of them, and nobody will buy them or come get them.. at least cut the body line out of them 6 inchs or so above and below the body line, keep the lip that wraps around the edge on it front and back. That way if someone is desperate down the road you can weld it into a good normal door. I had to make one of my uni doors that way. Also if it was me I would weld up a front wall to the box and save it as a box trailer. Someone could always make a SPLIT UNI out of it.

I got the doors pulled but I think I'm gonna leave the tubs, as I'm gonna fill the bed full of scrap metal before it goes to the crusher and I don't want stuff falling out. Pulled the door hinges too, they're really tight with no play. The rear end is staying in as well, it looks like a transplant of some type as its had coil springs welded onto the housing next to the leaf mounts. Might pull the axles though as the third member was gone when I got the truck. Got the gravel shield pulled along with both inner fenders, hood hinges and windshield trim, taillight housings, grill and upper valance panel and hood latch assembly.

Nobody has asked, and I doubt it is, but it isn't a big window cab is it? I would hate to see that slip thru the cracks of what to save.

I would think that a uni bed would be worth more as a whole than as scrap, if it is in decent, repairable shape.
Maybe someone near you would swap a different bed for it?

Its been rearended and she's warped pretty bad. I did consider cutting the cab loose, or at least the top because its pretty good but I'll let it go. Not sure if its a BBW, its got some funky trim along the bed/cab area though.

Ok a big back window has a window that wraps around the back of the cab and has a large piece of aluminum trim under it that wraps around the bottom of the cab right above the bed pics man we need pics :D.

If it has the big window cab, I'm probably a buyer! Let me know and we can get together.

If the window looks like Grit's; by all means let Steve (LM14) get with you before chopping anything up. And, where's those pics? :)
