TAKING THE ANODIZE OFF THE CHROME TRIM
OK IVE HEARD YOU CAN USE OVEN CLEANER OR SOMETHING TO TAKE THE ANODIZED FINISH OFF THEN YOU CAN POLISH. WHATS THE PROCEDURE?
Re: TAKING THE ANODIZE OFF THE CHROME TRIM
You can look in my gallery at my grill on my red/white restored 66. I did all the side trim as well but in the end I went ahead and purchased new side trim cause of small dings and dents. Headlight and tailight bezels as well.
Take a wall paper tray and lay the trim in the tray. Spray with oven cleaner, let it set until the trim turns brown and ugly about 15-20 mins. Need to be in warm temps for this to work best. I did mine in the summer. Rinse with water and hit it with wet 800 grit. Usually will have a few spots that the anodization did not come off. Repeat the process on those areas that need it. Rinse and start with 800 grit wet and then 1000 grit wet then buff wheel two stage with rouge. When you get the desired shine you can either seal or keep raw. I kept restored red and white 66 in the raw cause it sets under a tarp in the garage. I hand buff it once every six months with the shine paste of your choice... looks good. If I kept it outside like the blue 66 I drive daily I would try to seal it.
Im not gonna kid you its a very very very time consuming process especially the grill, but it worked well. Most importantly find a piece of trim that is not usable and test with it first. If not available I started with the parking light bezel.

Use Easyoff aerosol Yellow can. Be sure to wear gloves and a respirator. Spray on and let set. Respirator and gloves again when cleaning off with Scotchbrite or steel wool. Finish out as stated above.

I've tried Easy Off and wasn't that impressed. I use Easy Off for a cleaner on engine parts and love it for that but it works fair on anodizing in my opinion.
The "hot ticket" is a drain cleaner sold at Home Depot. Comes in a brown bottle and sealed in a bag. It is supposed to take it off a lot faster than oven cleaners and with one application.

Re: TAKING THE ANODIZE OFF THE CHROME TRIM
I've had excellent results using the "yellow" Easy-Off; very poor results with the "environmentally friendly" varieties, on many pieces of slick trim.. Some drain cleaners share the sodium hydroxide formulation; they may work as well or better. I find the convenience of the aerosol to be a safety and usage advantage, especially if working on long thin anodized aluminum pieces.
Let me qualify this by stating this procedure is for use on anodized aluminum pieces.

Re: TAKING THE ANODIZE OFF THE CHROME TRIM
There is actually a product available for removing anodizing. I bought mine at a car show from a vendor that sells buffing products. Works a treat! Still trying to figure out how to do the grille, though, as it needs to 'soak' in the mixture of water and product.

Re: TAKING THE ANODIZE OFF THE CHROME TRIM
Just removed anodizing from door sills for my 65...used Easy Off oven cleaner in the yellow top aerosol like Toyz said...worked great. Sprayed it on, let it sit for about 20 minutes, used 0 steel wool to clean em off...only had on spot that needed a second application to completely remove it all.

I just use Turtle Wax chrome polish and elbow grease. Wears right through it.
