on back of my trailer, I was thankful that there hoses had that quick relese cause it went back on the pump easy also was really embarassed on it

Those "capless" caps are available at Napa. I had a good laugh as I was looking one over. The guy behind the counter said "Don't buy them. They're crap!" I laughed and said "These probably sell like hotcakes till some joker goes through the car wash with the filler door open." We all had a good chuckle as there were a couple of customers behind me. Then one of the guys says (kind of red faced) "Actually... er... ah... I did go through the wash with the girlfriends car and yes they do let in the water." He had to drop his tank twice to get the water out, and replaced 2 fuel pumps. We all had a good laugh at this. Good thing the guy was a good sport, and could now laugh at it.

i left the filler cap off my 72 hornet and lost it. it was a sweet 2lb. piece of chrome and plastic with the "hornet" logo in the center. imagine my feeling of loss as i pondered what to do about the missing crown jewel of the car. i went back to the station to see if they had it in their lost and found. they did not, but had an exact color matching baby puke yellow cap that fit perfictly. i was happy again. what luck.

What's wrong with the cradle on the fuel door that you can place the cap in while refueling? That's what my Acura has, and it works great! Or the plastic tether that my Marquis had? That also worked well. It was a nice soft plastic "hoop" that didn't get brittle in extreme cold, never interfered with refueling, and it lasted the life of the vehicle (almost 20 years!).
Why reinvent the wheel?

I guess some people are just 'gas cap challenged', I've only lost one cap in my life...hmmm...I probably just jinxed myself, watch me lose 5 in two months now.
I'd like to see a better pic of the wonder cap in that link. I can't help but think that there may be a dirt contamination problem at some point, if all you do is shove a fuel nozzle in there. There's been plenty of times where the handle on my caps have had quite a bit of dirt/leaves/salt/whatever on the top as I open the little door.

After I bought my truck we went straight to the gas station to fuel her up for the first time, and then drove away with the gas cap sitting on the step of the bed. I freaked out when we next pulled over and realized it. Can you believe we retraced our drive and actually found it on the side of a busy intersection!
I had been too used to the idiot-proof tethered gas cap on my previous vehicle. I'd like to think that I learned my lesson and will never forget it again... buuuuuut....

i usually set mine right on top of the stake pocket on the bed. does not fall off
if you forget. seems like the pumps run real fast and it does not take very long to fill anymore so you are less likely to forget about it. besides chrome caps for in cab tanks are nit cheap.

Best thing to do if it's a removable cap- get a locking cap. Keep peckerheads from messing with your gas tank, but mostly, if you leave your keys hanging in the cap, wherever you leave them is okay, you can't leave without it. And as long as you don't leave your vehicle unattended, nobody's gonna steal it with the keys you left laying there.

here in oregon we are'nt allowed to pump are own gas. so i have never lost one. the atendents who pumps are gas however in most cases are not realy smart enough to do anything else. they can figure out to take the cap off but puttin it back is either beyond there skill level or there just plain lazy. got my slick march '07 and on my third cap.......seems like i get more life from a tank a gas then i get from gas caps

cant pump your own gas?
guess i would have to work at or own a gas station if i lived there .
i can understand not allowing folks to fill their own lp tanks but the gas thing seems a bit strange. must have a strong attendants union there.

It seems that in this country, everything is leaning toward what is more convenient, easier or requires less effort. Like all the people that have the "Turn signal delete" option on their vehicles. Or the cars that just don't have enough brakes to stop at STOP signs or red lights. I would call it slack jawed laziness but I'm sure it's a mechanical problem.....................
