OLYELLER,
Pull the two wires off the sender on the tank and touch them together. If your guage still only goes to 3/4 the issue is the guage. If the guage, with the two wires connected, goes to full the issue is your sender. The senders can be pulled apart and cleaned up fairly easy. I can't remember where, here or fordification, but there is a "how to" article on the tank senders.

Here is the link guys, http://www.fordification.com/fuel-sending-units.htm
Just touching the wires together will point you in the right area but some troubleshooting may be needed when you get there.
If you do try to clean the resistor wires as mentioned in the article I may also add as long as you are removing the cover remove the rod and float also and clean up the the edges of the cover and housing by the tabs and also the float "pivot rod" ,pivot rod holes, and area where the springs on the rod contact the housing. A good connection between the rod and the "housing" is needed. Just be carefull not to break off the "sweeper".

I had the same problem on my 66. I found the float had a small crack in it. I changed the float and it now works fine. A float and gasket costs about $5.

If it doesn't go to full when you short the wires at the tank. What Tom is saying is that if the problem is the fuel guage, it may be the voltage regulator behind the dash and not the guage itself....

if this was the case your other gauges would be off as well.
