Firewall wiring connectors

Post by 66freezerburn »

Hello everybody.
I am rewiring my truck with a Ron Francis wiring kit and am looking for some info on wiring connectors to pass through the firewall,I removed the stock rectangular connectors due to being old and deteriorated.

I have looked online for a possible solution but all I have found are industrial bulkhead connectors.
Any suggestions would be appricated.
Thank you.

I plan on filling the square holes and I used a hole saw to cut a hole. I put a rubber grommet in it and then ran loom through the grommet.

I've been thinking of using a Ron Francis wiring kit, or a Painless, but wondered what you are supposed to use for connectors? Is there any connectors in these kits? I'm talking about for headlights, dimmer switch, tail lights - anything that ends with a connector. You don't run new wire everywhere and use old connectors, or DO ya?? My harness under the dash has been chopped up, and under the hood has too.

Connectors

I was planning on using Weatherhead connectors wherever I needed to have a connection, you can buy them on Summit Racing site, they come in 1 to 4 prong weather proof connectors.

As for connections to head and taillights,I am going to be using halogen type bulbs which come with the proper connectors and relays but for the tail lights I will be using the stock bulb sockets and just installing the Weatherhead connections inbeteween.

I would still like to have a rigid connection beteween firewall and engine compartment.Like the Factory connection.

Any help would be appriciated.
Thank You.

the bulkhead connectors on my fireally good shape even though they were over 40 years old. so, when I bought my wiring loom and power panel from affordable street rods. I just took my old bulkhead connectors off. cleaned them up really good, stripped the wires down on each end of the connector, then soldered my new wires into the old terminals, this kit came with all the connectors for the headlamps as well. If I was to do this again I would get a Haywire kit its the most complete kit youll find, the wires are marked the entire way down the looms and the fuse panel has a kill switch so if you leave it parked somewhere its that much harder for someone to steal it with that switch in the off position. my kit was much cheaper and very simple with 21 circuits, so im not complaining. Another idea is to find a bulkhead connector from a newer pickup and take ito ut of that one, then you can get all the correct terminals from the manufacturer or dealer. usually part stores sell the ends for replacing bad terminals. I was looking really hard at Ron Francis but they just seemed wayy too expensive.

Firewall connectors

I found 1 solution to a firewall connector.
The spring 2008 LMC cataloge has a 4 and 8 pin connector to fit 1-1/4 hole for the 4 pin and 1-1/2 for the 8 pin,in case anyone else was interested.
Anyone else found anything?

I also used the Ron Francis harness and have been thinking of using this connector for the fire wall. Right now I just used there gromment hole and passed the wires threw for now. I left plenty of wire so when I go back and change it all will be ok.

There price is a little high on the connector but I don't have access to the other links at work.
