prediction....most valuable Slicks in the future

I predict the most valuable Slicks in the future will be 1961-63 wrong beds.

Why? Because I looked around and there were none.
Please sound off if you have one of these uniuqe trucks.

Where did you look? I could hook you up with about 1/2 a dozen within about 10 miles of my place. Two of them Mercs!
They are by far the most left-over slicks I have seen.. the other ones are more likely to be bought and fixed up.

I predict the big back window F250 unibodies will be the rarest. Only ever seen one (and it too was a Merc)
...or the 9' box F350s, not many of them.

Don't forget Rangers, or ANY BBW Uni for that matter. By far the rarest (and this may not be quite fair) is the 63 F 100 XL, how do you top one of one for rare?

I meant my statement as a metaphore. You have kind of comfirmed what I'm getting at. Ive seen plenty around here too. Mostly in the junk yard. Of those half a dozen around you, how many are being fixed up?
I think the mortality rate amoung wrong beds is higher than any other slick. Their commonality and traditional parts truck status will contribute one day to their rarity. One day you will look around and they will be gone.?
My 63 250 flareside is fairly rare. The only one I've seen I own. I know the low production models like the big window unis especially 250s will always be rare and desireable. But someday I see the lowly wrong bed being desirable too. I hope owners of wrong bed trucks will be encouraged to preserve at least a few of them.
I got to thinking this after a trip to pull a part where three wrong beds rested side by side. One was near perfect no rust no dents.

There is nothing wrong with that. I think Ford built it as the "universal donor". Frigde guys can use the bed. Slick guys can use everything else.

Were there any Big Window wrong beds? I know there were some Custom Cab wrong beds what about CC big window wrong beds.

Hey if anyone owns a wrong bed and would like to fix it up, I think we all here would like to see it.

The wrong bed I have here is a CC. If it wasn't soo rusty I would likely put a flareside or styleside box on it and fix it up.
Guess I should have kept that nearly rust free 64 body I had, lol.

Kidding aside I see where you are coming from. I do believe the straight axles and the wrong beds will stay popular. I have had an interest in someday owning a 65 or 66 shortbed but the more I think about it I would almost rather have a fridge box or flareside 4x4. A 2wd 64 long bed would also be nice, only year for straight axle, Y-block, 128"wb, and a "slick box longbed" all in one.

PS my 62 is also a CC

I've seen a few wrong beds at the supernationals restored. I remember seeing a 63 all restored original and it looked pretty sweet. Now I prefer all the other beds besides the wrongbed but it isnt too bad. At least WE know its factory.. What sucks would be having to explain why it doesnt look right to everyone else at car shows or the cute girl at the gas station.

Just remembered I had a photo of this. Pretty much the nicest slick I have seen in person. Old fire truck with a factory cow pusher and if I remember correctly it does not even have 10k miles on it.

if you wish to have a factory correct slick 4x4 then you will need the fridge bed or stepside.
unless you have a 66 f100, then you can use the styleside bed or flareside.
all slick f250 4x4s with long styleside beds are conversions. i do think they make an excellent looking 4x4 but cannot be called original.
those beds should be saved.

There was a 63' wrongbed for sale in town for a while. it was "restored" but the paint was bubblin where they painted over the rust

I sold a wrong box bed on ebay awhile back and had some guy email me that I had it advertised wrong (57-63)
I replied back that these were used up to 63 on 2x4s and later on the 4x4s.

He replied back thats incorrect, there was a clear cut off at 61
Thought about arguing the point with him but figured I might as well go argue with the fence post

A person from Wisconsin bought it he's out to build a show quality 4x4 so the bed found a good home

It's getting really tempting, believe you me.

The only reason it's not in my driveway is that I need to use my money elsewhere for the next few months.
