I "may" go grab a few I don't have ASAP to get American made ones. I sure as H&!! won't buy anymore of them after that though! Lowes has Kobalt locking pliers & welding pliers though.

I thought all Kobalt stuff was made elsewhere. Maybe I'm wrong...I know some of their stuff certainly is.
That's just way lame that Vice Grip is selling out. I was even bragging to a co-worker recently that they are one of the few left that are truly an American company.

Before long, the only thing American made things will be the weeds in my yard. :P

Man o man I hate to hear that
So many quality brand names have gone down the toilet in my opinion.

Ya know when we were kids I had a friend that had a toy sheriffs badge that had part of a Folgers coffee emblem on the back side.
Guess we better look under the things we get anymore

I just wish folks would quit expecting every quaterly profit to be a record setter and and take the bad times with the good times

Slick even the farmers are having problems with invasive weeds from other countrys

a group of us volunteer firemen were going after and old 2.5 ton army
truck that had set around a couple of years...
finally got ot running.. but no brakes, filled with juice but the only bleeder
we could get too, had been rounded off years ago, buddy snapped a pair
of vicegrips on as tight as he could,..still slipped, he screwed in the tightner
a turn but could not squeeze em tight enough to lock, so i put my hands around his and squeezed...ALMOST there, my other buddy started squeezen my hands...SNAP they locked on, took a cheater bar and broke that bleeder loose........NOTHING else is VICEGRIP

We are sorry to lose them. Like a lot of other towns where most of the residents worked at a single plant, DeWitt will probably never recover. There was an article in the local paper a few weeks ago that said the parts have been made in China for about the past year and then shipped here for assembly. They are great pliers, I have several of them, but won't buy anymore. It is more and more difficult to find Made in America items anymore. I remember when Walmart had a big push one year showing all of the items they sold that were made in America. That's not the case there any more.

I'm done with Irwin as well, not to mention Rubbermaid. What a sad state of affairs when the tools that built America can't be trusted to stay when the going gets tough. I'm going to say this not because I bear ill feelings towards V.G.'s employees that gave thier all for that company, but for the executives that chose the bottom line over what made them successful in the first place. I hope your company flounders for about two years and then you have to file for bankruptcy about the time our economy springs foward and the new UNITED STATES made tool takes your place.Damnit that makes me mad. No wonder our economy is in the #%*tter!!!

i will gladly pay 2$ for item x at a mom & pop store before giving walmart a quarter for the same item. it really is getting hard to find made in usa parts or items.
heck the water neck i got from orielly's says "china" on it. now i've got a replacement off of a 67 that i can use. i will use the "china" part for target practice.

Yep. Jist keep giving Wally world 50 cents less for that Chinese crap, and very soon we will have nothing left. It's almost that way already, and Wally World is jam-packed.

People is stupid.

"Hmmm wonder why my neighbor's job went to China. No sense thinking about it, I'm off to Walmart" :boohoo:
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

Ridgid Pipe Wrenches still manufactured in Ohio

Post by biggus »

I have been working for the past 10 yrs at the Ridge Tool Co. (RIDGID) in Elyria, Ohio. We make some of the finest tools for the professional plumber / mechanical contractor. Our company has been in business since 1924, and our plant is over 100yrs old. The past two years we have made record profits, and our company is accustomed to making a good profit.

In the past 5yrs we have opened a brand new plant in China (my boss went there two years ago and took pictures. They have a lot of open floor space). We have also opened a brand new engineering facility in India. (These guys are dumb).

Now back to Irwin or Rubbermaid or whatever they call themselves, I am sure that they were making a good profit at their plant in Nebraska, it was just not enough for their lazy greedy CEO’s. It is a harder to keep a plant open, pay your employees wages, insurance, etc than buying Chinese vise grips for pennies, put your IRWIN label on them and selling them for $5.

All of these CEO’s and multinational Corporations are all the same all they care about is making money, the easier the better. They don’t give a damn about the USA.

Our company has been doing pretty good until a month ago when our orders really fell off. A lot of people at our factory are worried, we know the layoffs are coming we just don’t know how bad.

If you were the CEO for our company and used to making a big profit what would you do, lay of employees or close your 100 year old Ohio plant where the employees are paid $10 to $15 an hour or lay off employees and or close your new China or India facility where the employees are paid $1 a day.

I am hoping for the best, but if not I will be looking for a good home for my slick.

Pat,

I'm in total agreement with what you said, and would like to add this comment "If you have not yet been screwed by Corporate America, expect to in the future". The only thing they have any consideration for is the almighty dollar, and we will all pay for their greed in the end. I really think this next year will be interesting, as to what is happening, but I am not looking forward to it. I have a few dollars put away, but each day those dollars appear to be growing more and more worthless, and as it appears now, I may be able to use them for some different looking wallpaper sometime in the future. Seems we are in a bad situation and will likely get worse before it starts to get better, if it does.
