My 1964 f100 project (updated with pics)

Post by Hurk »

This is my 1964 project. Got this at a junkyard locally. Had a 292 3-speed. I got it running, but something must have blown on it so i took it out. Got a 460 with c-6 waiting to be put in.

Straight from the junkyard
Image

put some stuff on the 292 nice looking but was a horrible engine.

Redoing everything

I got Christmas break and i am going to sand the truck down and primer it. Hopefully be able to paint it soon, but 1 step at a time. I really enjoy working on it and this is my first car so I am learning a lot on it. I have been looking on this site for a while and decide to join finally. I will have some more picks up and will be asking some question on here.
Thanks for looking

Good looking start! I went to the junkyard (salvage) once looking for parts and found a truck in the yard in better shape than the one I was driving!

BTW Welcome!

Yeah it was out of a junkyard for $600. The 292 had problems when I tried to start it, I couldn't find parts, It could never stay running right, and never found any information on it. I already knew the rockers where horribly oiled and when I pulled the engine out the lifters where not even oiled. This engine really had some problems. So I found a good deal on a 460 with trans for $450.

Thinking about gunmetal grey, but I am still thinking about it.

Agreed, Y blocks are awsome!! I belong to www.yblocksforever.com and they are a great resource for info and parts for these motors. There's a big yblock following out there. By the way :welcome:

welcome from Alaska

looks like your 292 may have had a breathing problem, i see the 710 cap on the oil filler tube, supposed to have a breather cap there.

i have been running the y blocks for a long time and really do like them, but its your truck and your choice so good luck.

I don't think i would have mind the 292 if it ran good, but it had problems. So instead of rebuilding it I just took it out and going to try something else.

Nice, another junkyard truck. Nothing really special, just a stock 460 from a 1973 Lincoln with a c-6. Not planning to do much with the truck just keep it stock looking no lowering or any of that crap.
You still have the 292
Yeah I do. Not planning to do anything with it. Probably going to junk it.

Y blocks are horrible!!! You should look at my album.

www.ford-y-block.com and the aformentioned y block forum above are the best resources for information.

I would be interested in your "junk" engine if you don't mind sitting on it till I can catch a run that way (truck driver).

My opinion on the y-block is, keep it. Have it drilled out 30 over and go with an isky cam with headers and a 4 barrel. It already has solid lifters in it. You will be surprised how snappy that lil puppy will be. There are places out there that can help you out. As the fellas' mentioned above. They do have a sound of their own. BUT, The 460 is also a good choice. It's all a matter of personal choice and IT IS YOUR TRUCK. Make yourself happy.
Nice find for a bone yard truck.
Good luck.

I have been working really hard on the truck lately and this what the truck looks like since the last time i posted.

The bed looked really good after i sanded it all down and put the primer on.
This is just a comparative Image of the bed.

I still got some more stuff to do here and there all i have left to do
is sand down the engine bay and do some stuff in between. Then I will get some experience in welding since there are a few rust holes that appeared when I was sanding the truck down. I got the rest of the body work left and then goes the final coat of primer that I am going to spray on with the air compressor. I am sure learning a lot with this truck

the truck is looking great. I wish I could have started with something like that. I had two and got to pick the best of either one and this is what I am starting with [albumimg]4261[/albumimg] and by the way, my garage used to look just like yours. keep us posted with the pics. nothing gets you motivated like someone else getting to work on their slick.
