parts hunting at -30

Post by ICEMAN6166 »

been in the deep freeze all week, -30.
today i had a visit from Jonathan , he bought that red 460 crew cab down in the lower 48 during the summer.
he needed a pedal assembly and some other parts that were in the shop. him and his brother made pretty quick work getting the pedals and bracket off @ -30. but then he is from Fairbanks, its in the -40 to -50 range there right now.

later on right after my wife got home i went to leave in her 66, got out in the road and the accel cable broke. idled back into my yard and rigged up a temporary fix, engine was warm so it gave off some heat but i set 2 wrenches on the inner fender and when i was getting ready to close the hood i picked them up with my bare hand and they stuck to it.
very happy it broke at home, not with my wife on the road in this weather.

what # weight of oil do you run in that kind of temp , Ice ?
for motor ? for tranny ?

Hey Ice
It's -43 in Fort Providence NWT today, and that's the high for today!
If you had told me 2 months ago I would be living in a place that was that cold, I would have shot you (or myself). Now that I'm here it's not so bad, you just find reasons to stay inside!

coldwithsnow.gif Dang y'all it sounds like you would have to get in the freezer to warm up.

Don't mind a little cool weather but every year I agree a little bit more with what a buddy from Mississippi says.

I'm not comfortable unless I'm sweating.

I have been outside cleaning the garage out for last few days in a T-shirt here in Alabama. But come summer here, I wish that I was having that cold weather you are having right now ICEMAN.

That's my motto, too.
If I had to deal with Iceman's weather, there definitely no way in hell I'd be venturing out to work on trucks. I'd leave 'em dead until spring. :P
I don't even work on my crap in the winter here when it's 35º or less. I know, I'm a wimp. oops.gif

LOL Brian, we have been in a bit of a cold snap here too. Been -38 in the mornings for the past week going to work. Finally starting to break though, today its up to -5 F, that's quite and improvement. Chinook starting to blow in, prolly a ton of snow coming this week then.

Ice, do you still have to use those stick on plastic portholes so you can see out the windows at -30?

Well, today I had to go out & brave the frozen tundra. My Daughter needed show tires on her 'Stang in a bad way. I figured I'd bite the bullet & bolt on some new snow shoes mounted on Bullitt rims.

Looks nice-n-sunny, but the temp never got above 20º all day. It was -7º when I got up this morning. coldwithsnow.gif

I don't care what the temperature, the cat on the Mustang hood would be the feature that evening at the chinese buffet!

I kind of miss hearing the snow sqeak as you walk on it because it's so dry & cold. I also saw an earthmover tire explode when it fell off of a flatbed at 65 below. :)

Ice sounds like the last 2 weeks around here, minus the battery blanket, circulaton pump and ice fog.
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

I got buddies too, but they don't jump on my cars, only lick the bugs and road kill out from under them.
