I was suppose to run to VA to buy a 66 Good Humor truck. It was in a mall, and donated to a church. Here is the problem, they don’t have a title.

I know the 67 and newer have the serial number stamped on the passenger side frame rail, on the 65 and 66 I have never found a serial number stamped anywhere.

Question one. Is there a stamped number on the 66’s anywhere?

Question two. Where is the vin plate usually installed on the 65 and 66? I hear they were in the glove box since there is no doors on the truck, but I have never acquired a truck with the glove box insert still there.

Question Three. Anyone know any downfalls of buying a F250 junk, and using the tag and number off of it? Since I know these trucks are not stolen, I really don’t have a problem doing this.
Good Humor, and the previous owners (distributors) did all kinds of weird things with these truck while they owned them. I found 69 body’s on a 67 frame, with a tag on the firewall that didn’t match the frame number.

I really do want this truck, but the state of Illinois is a pain to deal with when there is no title, and then toss in the fact that there is no serial number on the truck, they tell me not to touch it.
I have passed on trucks before with shady titles, and miss matched numbers. If I can’t get a good clean F250 title on this truck I will pass on it.

Most of these truck came from NY or CT. so they were sold with the registration card, and when it wasn’t registered in years, the registration slip gets lost. Illinois will title a truck off a registration card for those states.

The vin is stamped on the frame near the shock tower on the passenger side & also under the cab on the same side. You have to wire brush the frame in those areas to find the number. Most have a star before & after the number.

What about a title company to get the title. In Michigan you can apply for a lost title as long as it's not stolen. I would not take a title from another truck for yours.

Yup, top side of frame where 36TRUCK said. You can peek at ICEMAN6166 post in hints and tips for a good picture of a vin #s on a bare frame.

It took some sandpaper for mine to become visible. My wire brush wasn't doing it for some reason.

HUH, I just did a 66, and looked, and couldn't find one.

Even when it was in the body shop, the secretary of state police came in to check vin numbers, and couldn't find one, but the accepted the Hackney number, and copy of the title.

I know there is a number stamped in that location on the 67 and 69's.

I hate to tow the trailer all the way there, and not find a number. Maybe I can get the pastor to scrape the frame to look for me.

Forget what I said about ICEMAN's post in Hints and Tricks. I just looked and I couldn't find it there.

The data plate with VIN on my '62 is riveted to the glovebox door.

I always hit the frame with a scraper, and then WD40 or PB blaster to bring out the number.
I have looked, and never found a number on the frame of a 65 and 66. Maybe I need to get out the specks and look harder.

I went out to the shop & found my 66 vin. It's in front of the cross member. Here's some pics of it. The dark spot on the frame is where the # is. The number won't show in the pic.

I'm not from Missouri, but I had to look just to prove it really is where Tom said it would be. This is on a 65 that I'm buying as soon I can the title paperwork straight (yeah, me too). It even has that little star or asterisk at the beginning

Glad you found it. Must be some thing with Texas & thing are bigger there.

If you have a small local towing company that occasionally holds a vehicle auction they can auction your vehicle off to you and you get a clean worry free title. Mine did it for a $150. It saved me years of trouble in dealing with a temp title and dealing with the relatives of a deceased prior prior owner. Towing companies need to have a way to deal with the vehicles that they retrieve from the side of the road and nobody will claim.

Thanks guys. As long as I can get a serial number, I can do a bond thing here in Illinois and get a title. If there was no numbers on the truck, then it is almost impossible to get a title.
