Five years/ off subject

Post by Uncle Skip »

I know this is off subject, but I just had to share with my friends.
Tomorrow is the 5th anniversary of my diagnosis of colon cancer; I'm a 5 year survivor.
When you have colon cancer and make the big 5, that means you have a pretty good chance of living as long as you want to.

Ladies and gentlemen.
Please.
If you are over 45, PLEASE go get a colonoscopy. Its painless, its easy and it could save your life.
I had no pain and no outward signs I would acknowledge that I had a problem.
If I hadn't asked a couple of critical questions at my yearly flight physical, I'd be a dead man today.
If you want any more relative information about this, please e-mail me and I'll be happy to answer specific questions. Stay alive. Get checked.
You can't drive your pride and joy if you're heading south with cancer.
I love all you folks. Like the Star Trek geeks say, live long and drive Slicks...... uh er..... Prosper.
U@ss
I'm not arguing with you. I'm just explaining why I'm right.
Pardon me. Does your deaug bite?

Skip is telling it like it is. I had a close friend of mine to die from colon cancer three years. I got me an appointment pretty soon after. At the Dr. ofice he ask if i was havening any type of problems, i told him no, that i had a friend to die from it. He told me if people would just get a colonscopy that colon cancer would be a thing of the past. I was checked down the throat as far as could be and the colon on the same day. ( yes the checked the throat first. lol ) I had six polops, none were cancer thank God, so we scheduled a second exam for the next year. then he said see ya in 6 yrs. Like Skip said the procedure isnt that bad and well worth it. Plus the drugs they give you are really great. lol

Skip gled you made it. Congradulations.

They used to check me pretty often because my dad had colon cancer . now they let me go five years between checks. My wife lost her brother about a year ago to colon cancer because he refused to go get checked. when he got sick they found it had already spread to his liver.

live long and prosper, Skip.

I went to the doctor for the first time in a very long time today, have had such a nasty cold the last 2 days I have been right on my arse in bed.
Finally got a prescription for some antibiotics, he says it's strep throat that could progress into pneumonia. I wouldn't normally go to the doctor at all unless i was on deaths door, but yesterday he diagnosed my daughter with pneumonia.

When I was 17 and going off to college, I had to get a complete physical to show them at college admissions when I got there. The crazy British Navy doctor told me to pull down my pants (in front of my mother) and zoom with the rubber glove. I have never been so embarrased in my entire life. I am even blushing as I type this. I avoid going to doctors that do that ever since, at all costs. Cant even imagine a colnostipy. I hear they can do a blood test tho.
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

Congratulations! The colon aint no organ to mess around with let alone have cancer in. I have diverticulosus (colon issues), it has been acute a couple of times, they threaten to cut a few inches or so out when ever it flaires up. I had the look-see a couple weeks ago, one small polup that was removed and deemed non hazardous. I too strongly recommend the look see once you get to 45 or so. Once you start thinking of life on a bag or worse yet, no life due to cancer in your colon, early detection is the key. My bigest fear from the colonoscopy was waking up feeling violated with a rose on the pillow, but it aint nothing like that. The hardest part is the prep, do it on Sunday for the procedure on Monday. If you have it done, you will sleep a lot easier.

Skip I am glad to hear all is going well for you.
Its worth getting checked out & the prep the day before is not so tasty but o well you gotta do what it takes
I had about a foot of my colon removed 10 years ago (diverticulitis)
5 years ago we almost lost our oldest daughter to a bad case of ulcerative colitis. She was 18 at the time. It was a case of bad calls by the local hospital a rabbit run to Vanderbilt hospital in Nashville and a stay in intensive care. When she arrived at vanderbilt she had almost no blood pressure and a heart rate that would have killed an older person or so the doctor said. Lots of tense moments went on at that time for our family. All in all it was 5 weeks in the hospital to get her well enough to schedule an operation to have her entire colon removed.
Anyway the removal surgery went fine and the reattachment surgery 3 months later went fine also.
She graduated from college last year and called us last Tuesday night to tell us she accepted a marriage proposal from her boyfriend. :D

You should for sure get checked out even if you're young if you have issues with your digestive system. :D

skip, congrats! that is great news!

I hope and pray that my dad is around in 5 years, as he was operated on yesterday for the same thing....I sure hope they got it in time and got it all....he is in good spirits, so that is a good sign so far....we are all hoping that the pathology reports come back good next week too....

I kept after him about going and he shrugged it off, as he felt great and had no sign at all until he had some back pain....turned out to be colon cancer....our family history isnt the best with regard to cancer, and I am 40, and already got checked out, as I had some issues which turned out to be mild case of ulcerative colitis....I take a few pills daily and control it with no side affects....

I am certainly not ready to die and leave this world, especially my kids and loved ones, my car, truck, and other hobbies, and life in general....I have too much that I want to do and see, so I'll be back for a scope every 2 or 3 years at a minimum....guys, its not that bad, you go in, the sleepdoctor puts you to sleep, you wake up, and its over....the worst part is the prep the day before....so, you lose a day of work and spend it on the toilet, look at the alternative....not too much thought needed there....

Great news, Skip, good for you. At 58 I know I should go for a checkup, but after spending about every other day for almost 3 years with my wife going to doctors and hospitals, I don't have much love for doctors. That's just me though. I know, I know, I need to go.

Great news Skip!!
